I don't think this is common knowledge, so here goes:

The CMS add-in chips for the SoundBlaster 1.5 are actually Signetics
SAA1099 chips, that cost about $9 each CDN. 

I don't know about you, but if I'm only paying $18 instead of $40 for these
chips, it sort of makes them worth-while.

Oh yeah, the chips actually have Phillips' markings.
