The SA14400/IM14400 is the first modem on the market that will conform to the V.32 extended protocol, V.42 protocol, and V.42 bis/MNP-5 data compression for a maximum data transfer rate of 57,600 bps (compressed). The SA14400/IM14400 uses a transmission protocol based on the proposed V.32 extended standard that supplies the modem's base transmission speed of 14,400 bps. This advanced modem also uses the recently adopted CCITT V.42 bis and MNP-5 error correction and compression technology that boots modem output to a maximum 57,600 bps when communicating with any compatibile modem. When interacting with lower speed modems, the SA14400/IM14400 will either automatically select or allow the user to manually negotiate slower fall-back speeds and modulation rates. This enables users to communicate with both high and low-spped modems. Flexibility - Upgrades. The new SA14400/IM14400's software-defined architecture allows the SA14400/IM14400 to remain forever new. A new downloadable, upgrade software capability, (the first in the modem industry) allows the user's custom configurations - higher speeds, modified security algorithms, and various other applications or features - to be designed and reconfigured over the telephone lines from the American headquarters. This saves the cost of buying new equipment, the inconvenience of downtime, and the additional expense required for reconfiguration. Performance. The SA14400/IM14400 with the V.32 standard uses "Trellis encoding" which corrects errors due to noisy lines and results in faster throughput by offloading much of the error correction from the MNP-1 through 4 and V.42 protocols. This reduces retransmission time resulting in faster data throughput. This modem is designed for a wide variety of data communications environments: Selectable festures allow the user to accomodate several functional requirements including half or full duplex communications protocols, ten auto-dial numbers, and manual or auto fall-back.
