Text on East Timor

A little note...
Hi, I'm one of the makers of Oneiric Omnicide (an E-Zine) anyways I was
trying to get some sleep when I thought back to an article "Genicidal
Tendancies" (below) I wondered how the hell I could get any sleep knowing
that PEOPLE ARE DEAD, AND CONTINUE TO DIE. It's discusting how sain people
can detach themselves from events like this... anyways the only reason
this genicide, can go on, is because people don't know about it. So read
up, because it's a sick world, and I'm sick of the little guy having no
voice. You and I are big brother, and it's time big brother got off his
ass and helped little brother, cause without us, he's dead.

Ever Heard of East Timor? I bet you haven't.
This is IMPORTANT... don't skim it, read it.
East Timor is north of Austrailia, about 420 Kilometers, between the
Indian and Pacific oceans. The Timorese people were one of the last
surviving ancient peoples in that part of the world. They were self-
reliant and existed outside of the global ecoonomic system. The child
ren grew up in a safe, stimulating, nuturing enviroment. East Timor
was a Portugese colony invaded by Indonesia in 1975. Indonesia had no
claim to it and said so. Canada, the US and other nations have voted
against UN resolutions to end the occupation. "The Department of
State desired that the U.N. prove utterly inefective in whatever
measures it undertook. The task was given to me and I carried it
forward with no inconsiderable success" -DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN
On Dec. 5th, 1975, U.S. President Ford and Kissenger visited Indonesia
and requested that Indonesia delay the invasion as it would be too
embarassing. The invasion started a few hours later on Dec. seventh.
Bombs were dropped on Dili early in the morning, the number of troops
nearly outnumbered the entire population of the town, and for 2 or 3
weeks they just killed people. They fleed into the jungles, indonesia
then set up recieving centers, for those Timorese who came out of the
jungle waving white flags. Those the Indonseians thought were
intellegent or suspected of belonging to rebel groups were shot. The
women were flown to Deli for "use" of the Indonesian soliders. They
killed children and babies. There main weapon was starvation. The
U.S. backed it all the way and provided 90% of the arms. Right after
the invasion the U.S. stepped up arms shipment. When the Indonesians
began to run out of arms in 1978 the Pres. Carter administration
stepped up arms sales. Other western countries did the same, Canada,
England, Holland, everyone who could make a buck was in there. There
is no western concern of human rights abuses, etc, if there is a
profit to be made. Nothing could show it more clearly than this.
There was lots of coverage of East Timor before the war by the New
York Times, etc but after the invasion the coverage dropped the only
views that were reported was solely that of Indonesian generals, and
the State Dep. Never Timorese refuges. When the atrocities were
peaking (1978) the coverage dropped to nothing. All this was going
on at exactly the outcry about Cambodia, the atrocities were
comperble. In relitive terms it was considerably higher in Timor.
News coverage of Timor, 1975-1979 - 70 column inches
News coverage of Cambodia, 1975-1979 - 1,175 column inches
There was a fairly accurate London times article, the New York times
then took that article and completely revised it and gave it a
totally different cast, then it was picked it up by NewsWeek and given
the NewYork Times cast, it ended up being a total whitewash where the
original had been an atrocity story.
*And so one of the greatest tragities of our time is still going on,
the Indonesian's have killed up to 1/3 the population. Their in
concentration camps, there are large scale military opreations with
names like "Operation Irradicate" or "Operation Clean-Sweep"
Timorese women are subjected to a forced birth control program. There
is a constant stream of Indonesian settlers to take over the land.
Whenever people are brave enough to take to the streets in
demonstrations or show the least bit of resistance, they just
masacere them. If we allow the international comunity to stay in
East Timor, they will digest East Timor and turn it into a cash crop.
* = Roughly quoted from Elaine Briere - East Timor Alter Network
Ok Great, so now you know about it, well take a few steps further, tell
EVERYONE you know, do everything you can to stop this from continuing,
there's blood on your hands for every second you waste. Make the media
aware.
BY DOING NOTHING YOU HAVE HELPED END THE LIFE OF A HUMAN.
