Are there simple answers to complex questions? Our lives these days are
certainly filled with an enormous assortment of challenges! Juggling the
needs of family, career, relationship and personal time is an act truly worthy
of any professional circus entertainer!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a simple way to help the juggler create
more ease and pleasure in her life? And what about having more energy,
more inner peace, more confidence , clearer thinking, increased creativity and
enhanced self-worth?

Well, hang onto to your oranges. Right now, before you go any further,
Take a deep breath! Thank you. That willingness to take a deep breath is, in
fact, where we begin our journey to find a simple answer.

Breathing is unquestionably the single most important thing you do in your
life. And breathing correctly is unquestionably the single most important
thing you can do to improve your life! All the great cultures throughout
time have known and applied the secrets of the Breath. Correctly practiced,
breathing aids in longevity, increases vitality , inner strength and, most
importantly, reduces stress.

It is no wonder that the ancients called it the "life-of-all". An ancient proverb
says, "Life is in the breath. He who half breathes, half lives. " In this most
fundamental of all activities lies a great secret for tapping into a great healing
power available to us all.

You may be wondering, "If breathing is such a big deal, why aren't we already
experiencing all these wonderful benefits?" the answer is also simple. The
majority of us have breathing habits that are all wrong!

Unfortunately what most people consider proper breathing is , in fact, what is
known as futile breathing. Futile breathing is a habit of rapid, shallow
breathing, high in the upper chest with irregular rhythm. It is, actually,
disastrous breathing. It not only adds to stress; it creates stress! It also
contributes to feelings of fear and anxiety as well as negative and confused
thinking

Proper breathing is essential for health. It alleviates the debilitating effects of
stress. It is like the master switch that has an immediate and profound effect
on our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being. Where futile
breathing actually causes us to think in a negative, limited manner, proper
breathing restores a positive, confident outlook. Your most valuable asset for
success in all areas of your life. The proper breathing is the way we were all
designed to breathe before bad habits crept in. Learning to return to proper
breathing is really quite simple. After all, it is the breathing that we were all
meant to be breathing before bad habits interfered. The elements of this
natural way of breathing are:

1. Sitting or lying down comfortably, place your hands on your abdomen .

2. Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose (the preferred place ) letting
your abdomen expand like a balloon. BE sure to focus on the breath coming
all the way down to the abdomen.

3. Allow the breath to first be drawn into the lower lungs and then gradually
continue into the upper part.

4. Relax and exhale. Release the breath in the upper chest gently first and
then the lower lungs. Just like a balloon deflating.

5. Guide the breath into a continuous, connected fluid rhythm.

6. As you feel greater relaxation, allow the inhale to gently expand taking in
fuller breaths. Never force the breath. As you relax, the breath will
effortlessly expand.

This natural way of breathing sends a message to your nervous system
increasing a sense of relaxation and calm within. Thus, this quieting aspect of
the nervous system is
stimulated, counteracting stress.

Practicing this way of breathing will restore your natural inheritance of
energy, inner peace and simultaneously, optimise your sense of personal
power. Just 20 of these breaths practiced twice daily - the very first thing in
the morning and the last thing at night - begins a new habit allowing you to
truly enjoy and benefit from the power of the breath.

Within each of us are all the necessary resources to create a happy, healthy
and fulfilling life. The breath - which we usually take for granted - is our
most powerful ally. In these hectic times, it is indeed comforting to know
that a simple solution is only a breath away!
