Welcome to Screaming in Digital, the unofficial electronic mailing list
for fans of Queensryche. A few real quick things about how to subscribe,
unsubscribe, contribute, etc.
1) This is a digest. If it gets big there may also be a mailing list.
2) If you have questions, or want to subscribe/unsubscribe, mail me.
3) If you have anything you want included, _please_ mail me.
4) If you send a "group reply" to everyone, you might get unsubscribed.
This digest will be published every monday. If there are weeks of
particularly heavy activity, groupwise, there might be extra issues, or
extremely long issues.

Editor's note
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello again, everyone! (i need a more original greeting.) now that
I've got a digest thing to edit (and a night of sleep behind me) I figured it
might be a good idea to get this thing into a fairly concrete format. For
starters, I've decided to take a fairly 'zine-like format. I hope the titles
I've chosen for things will be comprehensible. If more sections need to be
added, it won't bother me!
On another note, I've been mailed one gif (the mindcrime one, thanks
to Tim!) and have typed in the lyrics for every song on the E.P. I've also
acquired a good bit of lyrics from FTP (though I have to proofread them all)
Within the next few weeks, I hope to get an FTP subdirectory here to
use for archives and resources. Included in it will be all lyrics, reviews,
interviews, images, informational files, and, of course, issues of this digest.
If you have something out there that you think should be included in the
archive/resource area, mail it to me (uuencode images first _please_).

What's new
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you're reading this on Tuesday morning, get off your backside and
GO BUY "Operation: Livecrime." Need I say more? Stores here are predicting
that they _may_ even have it by Monday afternoon(!)
khx5@marist.bitnet notes in "Update 8" (a general new-music digest
on bit.listserv.allmusic) that the "Operation: Livecrime" set will only be
available to the public until Christmas, so it is _definitely_ a must-get. He
also notes that the group has stated that this is the _last_ complete version
of "Operation: Mindcrime" that will be made. {hint: BUY IT! -sh} His review
of it is quite well-written, and with his permission, I have excerpted a few
paragraphs from it. For the complete review, contact him. (Dero)
"In a nutshell, if you love _Operation: Mindcrime_, you will love the
soundtrack recording to _Operation: Livecrime_. In fact, the only
real differences between the two recordings that I could detect are
some altered voice inflections by Geoff Tate (probably for ease of
singing live), the sounds of live recording (audience, ambience of
instruments, Tate diatribe), and the occasional dramatic alteration
of a song, which basically took the form of a dramatic pause. Even
the story-line soundtrack is reproduced live! (I am convinced that
there is some major audio synchronizing being done on this
recording, as "Suite Sister Mary" contains all choir voice-overs and
orchestration, including Mary singing.)
"If you are a musical purist then this recording is for you, as it is
as exact as you can get live. If you prefer variations of songs
during a live performance or some improvisation, then this release
is not for. But keep in mind that Queensryche *is* putting on a Rock
Opera live, so perhaps there is no place for improvisation. Maybe
this is why the soundtrack and the video can only be sold as a
package - the visual performance is just as critical as the music
performance. No doubt this will differ from individual to individual.
"In any case, a sampling of the live soundtrack has made me very curious
as to what the video will look like. If it is as half as good as the
"movie images" that I painted in mind when I first heard _Operation:
Mindcrime_, it should be quite a video experience."
I do not know whether Dero has had the opportunity to view the video
"Video: Mindcrime" which has been available for some time. The footage used
during the concert bore _some_ similarity to that, though I do not recall
whether all of it was identical. I suspect that the "Operation: Livecrime"
video will consist of video concert footage including the background screens
on which the videos were projected.
ehanson@umbc5.umbc.edu writes that the release will include video
of the "Operation: Mindcrime" concert segment during the current tour, a CD,
and a 52-page book, with a price of about $40. (Erik)
Erik also writes that his campus paper interviewed Scott Rockenfield,
who said that he hopes the band will have another album out by the end of '92.
Other band members (Geoff and Chris) stated on MTV that they intend to take
some time off after the current tour, but apparently the break won't be _that_
long. {for more info on that interview, mail Erik. -sh}
aa676@cleveland.freenet.edu writes that a cassette version of
"Operation: Livecrime" will also be available, for about $37. This version
will include the video, the book, and a cassette. (Chris)

Reader Letters
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
rcleveng@eagle.afit.af.mil asks, "Did Geoff Tate start out in opera?
I have heard... that he did, but nothing positive." He also writes, "I have
heard... there is going to be a contest to give away... Chris's Tri-Ryche
guitar! If anyone has heard... please post details." (Doogie)
{yes, if anyone knows, please drop me a line for SiD. -sh}
ehanson@umbc5.umbc.edu writes, "Something that I thought would be good
for inclusion... is... the meanings of the albums." (Erik)
{i don't know of any meaning other than Operation: Mindcrime"
but if someone sends me factual data, I'll include it! -sh}
cma@lcuxlm.att.com writes asking whether anyone knows what the spoken
words in the middle of "Silent Lucidity" are. (Christine)
{i think a lot of us would like to know! -sh}
harden@acsu.buffalo.edu writes, "Does anyone have a complete
discography... with CD- and 7" singles, and... special recordings [limited
edition]?... Also... distributors of tour souvenirs... Has anyone joined the
Queensryche fan club? How is it?" (Alex)
{if anyone does have a good discography, please send it for the
archives, too -sh}

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't seen them in _my_ mall, have you seen them in _yours?_
If you're anywhere near Hawaii, they seem to be taking a break (out
there?) after their Honolulu show. Might be a good chance to get some beach
volleyball with famous "international dudes of leisure" in!

So, there you have it. This thing has grown {tight against the seam?}
slightly, as has the audience for it.
Don't forget to write - I can't compile what you don't send me!
