        _Screaming in Digital______________________________Editor's Note_

Okay... all those nifty changes I mentioned in the last
issue are embodied in this issue. I'm going to try to keep each
one under 13,000 bytes or so. That'll let me save up a bit for
weeks when everyone's on break or I'm sick or something. If you
sent something in and don't see it in this one, look for it later
        this month.
I sent an envelope to the Queensryche fan club asking for
the lyrics to 'Last Time in Paris.' They stated that they can
provide lyrics to any of the albums, I hope they have them for
        the song.

        _Neue Regel___________________________________________What's New_

For the guitarists out there - the April issue of "Guitar
School" magazine contains a transcription, or tab, or something
(no, I don't _play_ guitar) of 'Revolution Calling.'

        dwb4025@rigel.tamu.edu (David) writes,
"I watched the Headbanger's ball last weekend, and agree
with the other comments. I was getting very annoyed at Rikki,
his pathetic questions, and the way he kept interrupting Geoff
and Chris, but what else would i expect from MTV?"

        ender@uunet.uu.net (Pete) writes,
"I too had the dubious pleasure of witnessing Geoff and
Chris make Rikki Rachtman look like more of an idiot than he
usually does. Rikki had to be _told_ that "Empire" had been
out for 73 weeks, which is where he made his mathematic leap to
"Like, 20 weeks more than a year," which, is, of course, wrong.
It's 21 weeks more, but hey, it _is_ Rikki we're talking about.
"The only mention I have heard - on Rockline and
Headbanger's Ball - of entering the studio was "in the Fall,"
although the latest newsletter from the fan club says, "in the
        Spring."

        jl10s44@weird.miami.fl.us (Jason) writes,
"This is getting to be a habit. I've pretty much bought
every single off "Empire" - yes, I have the album - just to get
at the b-side tracks. And I missed Jet City Woman, and now I
find out that one of my favorite songs was remixed on the back
of it. I hope the store still has an extra copy of it."
{If they don't, send mail to Spike Pierson at
                        spikep@tau-ceti.isc-br.com. He can probably get
                        it for you.  -sh}

        mweintr@auvm.american.edu (Mike) writes,
"What does the "February 1986" line in 'One and Only'
mean? The "back in '86, February and a special number."

        torsten@draper.com (Torsten) writes,
"I bought "Operation: LIVEcrime" for $29.99 (new) at a
place called "In Your Ear" in Harvard Square (Cambridge, Mass.).
They only had that one copy then, but I'm sure they'll get more.
Also, "Nuggets" in Kenmore Square (Boston, Mass) has a used copy
        for $38.00."
{$29.99 new is a good price. $38.00 used? Hah.
                        You can get it new for less.  -sh}

        jfdintin@eos.ncsu.edu (Joe) writes,
"I too am very interested in the lyrics to 'Last Time in
Paris'. Because of the amount of undecipherable lyrics, I can't
quite piece together the entire storyline.
"Regarding the high speaking voice just before the final
chorus - the part says something to the effect of, "Jacques, we
need the photos before the show," and Geoff replies, "What?!
(mumble)," - it has to be a female voice. If not, it's a pretty
good impression. Could it be a cameo by Pamela Moore?"

        ch9102@seqa.bristol.ac.uk (Nikki) writes,
"Regarding the release of 'Anybody Listening,' is it not
better that the rest of the world gets to hear this song? It may
well win people over only temporarily, but it may also win
Queensryche some permanent fans, or at the very least make
people think twice before writing Queensryche off as purely heavy
metal. I just wish they were releasing it here in Britain, as I
        don't think they are."

        harden@acsu.buffalo.edu (Alex) writes,
"I felt kind of ripped off after buying "Operation:
LIVEcrime." how was I supposed to know they were going to release
something like that? Oh well, a little overlapping material on
releases by a band is to be expected. Live and learn."

        ender@uunet.uu.net (Pete) writes,
"The video for 'Anybody Listening' - Great song, great
        scenery, great video. Enough said."

        _The Killing Words_________________________Babble Interpretation_

        jfdintin@eos.ncsu.edu (Joe) writes,
"I am interested in 'Roads to Madness.' After the final
chorus, there is a slow part leading to the final mad-rush
ending. During the transition, Geoff is continuously mumbling.
In my copy of the album lyrics, these words are not included.
        Does anyone have any ideas?"

        dweisman@umiami.ir.miami.edu (Dan) writes,
"Did anyone else hear the RockLine interview? I think
Chris said that the voices at the end were from their producer
when they left the recorder on at the end of a session. He said
the producer was upset about a speeding ticket or something. I
don't think space aliens were involved :).
"The bang at the end I would assume to be the door to
the studio slamming or some such. And of course the metallic
sound would be from the fact that they were in a recording
        studio."

        ender@uunet.uu.net (Pete) writes,
"At the end of 'Anybody Listening,' I always thought it
was just the band members out on Geoff's boat talking about
something. Those are definitely noises one hears on a sailboat.
I think it's not a door slamming at the end, but it sounds almost
exactly like a deck hatch of a sailboat slamming shut."

        speno@shark.rutgers.edu (John) writes,
"A few weeks after the release of "Empire", Philadelphia
station WMMR's metal show For Rocker's Only had the pleasure to
receive a call from Geoff Tate. The DJ asked Geoff about the
voice in the beginning of 'Empire.' Geoff responded by saying
the voice belongs to his friend Random Damage who is mentioned in
the list of thanks on the album. Geoff said he and Mr. Damage
were to go out one particular evening, and Random called and left
a voicemail message. That is in the beginning of 'Empire'."

        ju@phakt.usc.edu (Eddie) writes,
"The band wanted to record an actual drug dealing on the
streets and mix it in the bridge section of "Empire" but all
the dealers ran away as soon as they saw the equipment, so they
ended up with the speech about government expenditure statistics
        instead."

        jgray@balboa.eng.uci.edu (Jeff) writes,
"I remember an interview where Chris mentioned not
tapping into phone lines, but actually trying to tape a real
drug deal going down in a park in Seattle. When the dealers saw
a shotgun mike sticking out of a van, they weren't too pleased
and started coming after the van. Chris admitted that it really
was not too good an idea in retrospect, but they were caught up
in the art of creating the song 'Empire'."

        ender@uunet.uu.net (Pete) writes,
"Chris and Geoff did get a blacked out van and drive to a
park where drug deals frequently happened, hoping to catch an
actual deal going down with a boom mike out the window, for use
on the title track. Unfortunately everyone noticed the blacked
out van and no deals went down. The beginning of 'Empire' is
not an actual deal, it's Geoff speaking."

"One of our import suppliers is now carrying a
Queensryche import from Japan titled "Queen Of The Reich."
Our price for that item is $22.99 (plus shipping)."
{Spike informs me that this item is the Japanese
release of the EP, with the same songs as the US
release, but that he suspects the sound quality

"I just got some Queensryche merchandise from the Fan
Club. I ordered the "Silver Ryche Pendant," as it's listed on
the merchandise thing and it looks cool. A bit small, but
then again it's a pendant, what do you want, something the size
of one of those gigantic metal rings that rappers wear?
"I also ordered some buttons. The buttons gave no
reference to what time slot of the band they were, but the
        buttons are:
"1. The "Operation: mindcrime" logo and name Queensryche.
"2. A picture of Queensryche during their "Operation:
mindcrime" days and the name Queensryche.
"3. The name and logo for "Operation: mindcrime," the
same picture of Queensryche as in button 2, and
                    "Tour 88/89" on the bottom.
"Just trying to help out anyone thinking of buying stuff
from the fan club merchandise list, since it has no really
        in-depth descriptions."

        dwb4025@rigel.tamu.edu (David) writes,
"I found an awesome store in Arlington, Texas this
weekend that carries loads of imports. I got a live recording
from a while back. It was recorded just after the release of
"The Warning." It is called "Queen of the Reich" and includes
'Nightrider,' 'Prophecy,' 'Deliverance,' 'NM 156,' 'Child of
Fire,' 'Before the Storm,' a guitar solo, 'Blinded,' 'The Lady
Wore Black,' 'Warning,' and 'Take Hold of the Flame.'
"The sound quality is not the greatest, but the band is
audible, and there are some nice parts. Geoff's voice is clear
for the most part, as are Chris and Michael's solos. the Bass
and drums are a distant rumble in the background, but overall
it was worth the money. It was recorded in West Germany I
        believe.
"I also snagged two UK promotional posters for the CD
singles I have from Holland. They are basically blown-up covers.
They had them for 'Silent Lucidity' and 'Jet City Woman,' also a
smaller one for 'Empire,' which I grabbed. They are ordering the
"Operation: Empire" boxed set for me."

        tdy3835@ritvax.isc.rit.edu (Tim) writes,
"The 'I Dream in Infrared' acoustic single is on a
compilation disc of 'Empire' (live), 'I Dream in Infrared'
(acoustic), 'Walk in the Shadows' (live) and two other singles
        I'm not sure of."

        ender@uunet.uu.net (Pete) writes,
"The 1991 acoustic remix of 'I Dream In Infrared' is
definitely on the b-side of the 'Jet City Woman' single. The
b-side for 'Silent Lucidity' is a live version of 'The Mission'
recorded at Hammersmith Odeon in England."

        harden@acsu.buffalo.edu (Alex) writes,
"Melissa and Simran were right about the 'Jet City Woman'
single having 'I Dream in Infrared' ('91 acoustic remix).
"The 'Silent Lucidity' cassingle also contained 'The
Mission' (live), and its CD single contained those 2 songs plus
        'Eyes Of A Stranger' (live)."

        dwb4025@rigel.tamu.edu (David) writes,
"A store in Dallas has the 10" vinyl single of 'Best I
Can' that was mentioned before. It has a laminate badge and
        poster along with the single.  The store is very overpriced;
they want $20 for the import.
"A store in Fort Worth is getting 2 bootlegs in this
week, supposedly. I am not so sure I trust the man who runs
        it."
