I went into a studio here in the Seattle area (sorry,
can't disclose) to retrieve some master tapes of mine. Boy! I
was shocked to see my tapes along side a bunch of QR masters. I
mean the 24-track master reels of "Operation: Mindcrime,"
"Empire," 'Scarborough Fair,' as well as the digital masters for
"Operation: Livecrime," unreleased remixes of 'Silent Lucidity,'
(I wanted to hear them _so_ bad!) and older tapes.
It may not be that big a deal to some, but I thought,
wow, here are the bare-bones buck-naked tracks to some of my most
	favorite music.
The guy said they come in after hours with their A-DATs,
and they are auditioning some new stuff for the next album.
{The word from EMI is that we can expect the next
			album in mid to late 1993, finally.  -sh}

If you want to know the words to "Silent Lucidity" it
would be a good idea to ask Chris instead of Geoff. Chris did
	write the song, you know!
{True. I believe he played the "dream master" in
			the video, too.  -sh}

	edju@chaph.usc.edu (Eddie) writes,
Got a question here: I think it was mentioned that there
was some extra bonus after the credits in the "Building Empires"
video, just like "Video: Mindcrime." I bought a copy but there
was nothing after they rolled the credits. Did I get a defective
copy? Or was that the end?
{The closing conversation - before the credits -
			is the special treat this time.  -sh}

If you're ever up in Boston, check out a band called
Fortune. They are really into Queensryche and do some
_excellent_ covers of some of their songs. I'm not kidding, the
lead singer can sound _exactly_ like Geoff Tate. Their originals
are cool too. My girlfriend tells me that they have not been
doing many covers lately, but on nights when they do all
originals, they still include either 'Best I Can,' 'Jet City
Woman' or 'Revolution Calling.' Usually both 'Best' and 'Jet.'
I've also heard them do 'Operation: Mindcrime.' The Queensryche
covers always get the biggest response, but other covers such as
Styx's 'Renegade' and 'Blue Collar Man,' Kansas's 'Carry On
Wayward Son,' Boston's 'ForePlay/Long Time,' and the Eagles'
'Hotel California' are just as incredible. This band can do
_any_ cover and make it sound just like the original. Even on
nights when they only do originals, I'd recommend seeing them.
	They're great.

	bn@mndcrme.uoknor.edu (Bo) writes,
I just thought I'd share my luck story with others. Our
local radio station (KATT 100.5 FM) had a Queensryche weekend
this last weekend and was giving away copies of the "Building
Empires" video, whenever they played a Queensryche tune. I'll
admit that I hardly ever listen to radio anymore, due to all the
'noninteresting' stuff they play, so I completely forgot about
this special weekend. On Sunday, I just turned it on, and the DJ
talked about the giveaways. I about kicked myself for completely
forgetting about it. She went on to say that she would give away
3 more tapes during the next hour.
I've _never_ tried to win anything from a radio station,
but I was determined to try this time, since Queensryche is one
of my favorite groups, and I haven't gotten the video yet. Of
course I had to suffer through stuff like the latest Bon Jovi
single, but finally I heard the opening notes to 'Eyes of
a Stranger.' I put the auto-redial button on my phone through
its paces. No use, it was constantly busy. After around 100 or
so redials, I'm now a proud owner of "Building Empires."
Some thoughts on the tape itself - I really like the live
stuff (especially 'Take Hold of the Flame,' 'Walk in the Shadows,'
and 'The Prophecy'). Like most of the others, I wish it included
'Queen of the Reich.' 'Nightrider' reminded me very much of the
Motley Crue video for 'Live Wire,' except that Geoff Tate dressed
exactly like Kevin from Quiet Riot. I've seen all the clips in
the 'Eyes of a Stranger' mix before, since I've got "Operation:
Livecrime," so nothing new there. This was the first time I'd
heard the unplugged stuff as well and I'm very impressed with it.
I'm always amazed at how good guitarists Chris and Michael really
are. By the way, did anyone notice how similar Geoff looks to
Lars Ulrich from Metallica in the unplugged session? It was
almost scary. I thought that Lars gave up drumming and joined
	Queensryche to handle the vocals.

Someone recently informed me of a CD entitled "Breaking
the Silence." They said it was an import comprised of the entire
"Operation: Mindcrime" CD and 'Silent Lucidity,' priced at $30.
Hopefully, I can get my little hands on that baby and check it
	out for myself!
			{I think it's a 1990 bootleg from Holland.  -sh}

	edju@chaph.usc.edu (Eddie) writes,
The Virgin Megastore that just opened up in L.A. has a
healthy amount of imported Queensryche CD singles, especially
compared to the Towers around the area. I saw the two British
'Silent Lucidity' CD singles, 'Another Rainy Night without You,'
'Empire,' and 'Jet City Woman.' No new B-sides that haven't been
mentioned in the digest, though. If you are going to check them
out at Virgin, bring your plastic or checkbook! It's darn
expensive down there and usually they have a lot of copies for
each title. It's weird how they have some stuff that I never saw
in Tower but there was so much more stuff that you could get in
Tower that they don't have in Virgin.

	rcollins@nxy.cs.du.edu (Randy) writes,
Well I finially got a hold of one of the promo CDs for
the "Building Empires" video, its name is "The Sound Of Building
Empires". I won it from a local radio station here. I think I
may have gotten close to the last one they had. Songs include:
		1. 'Eyes Of A Stranger' (6.39), the original version.
		2. 'The Lady Wore Black' (6.13), the studio version.
		3. 'Take Hold Of The Flame' (4.54), the studio version.
		4. 'I Will Remember' (4.00), from "MTV Unplugged."
		5. 'Silent Lucidity' (6.11), from "Building Empires."
Each track listed has a reference to the new video.
On the front: It's hard to make out, but I'll try. The
picture looks like a shadow colored design. In dark purple a
construction crew is working on something. I can make out a
crane and some other machinery. Smoke is spewing in the air.
In the foreground in off-white is the Try-ryche insignia used on
"Empire." The band name is spelled across the record about one
third of the way from the top, with the title to the right, done
	similar to "Operation: Mindcrime."
Inside: In dark green, a large bridge, the sky a lighter
green . It looks as if the shot is under one end of the bridge,
looking down to the other end. The tracks are listed along with
times and miscellaneous stuff (i.e. producers, where the song
	originated).
Back: Can't really make it out, but it looks like a
construction site, I can make out the smoke again. It's green,
as the inside . I assume it to be the construction site for the
bridge on the inside. The racks are listed here as inside.
The CD: Flat black with the band name (white letters in
a black box) over the title (black letters in a white box) at the
top, and on the bottom the tracks (black letters in a white box).
The EMI logo has North America on it. I dunno if this
means they were just releasing the EP in North America or EMI
expanded? A couple previous records had EMI America on them.
	Comments?
			{Yes, EMI is a rather big operation now.  -sh}

	agate@wam.umd.edu (Kasha) writes,
So what about us Amiga-using Queensryche fans? If
anybody's interested, I can up some 48kHz samples to the site.
{44kHz would be a little more standard, and I
really should ask the admin if we can gobble up
			more space.  -sh}

        _The Whisper__________________________________________Discussion_

	r_turgeo@oz.plymouth.edu (Randy) writes,
Of all the times I've read others' comments on the
Unplugged show, not one person has mentioned 'The Killing Words.'
Not only is it my favorite song of the five they played, but I
think it is their best acoustic rendition off an album.

	gmgettie@thama1.apgea.army.mil (Gary) writes,
I finally got to see and record the Queensryche Unplugged
show. I liked every song but 'The Killing Words.' I would much
rather have seen something like 'Scarborough Fair.' I wanted to
record the Pearl Jam Unplugged show also, but for some dumb
reason eMpTyVee showed it at 9:00 instead of the advertised time
of 10:00, so I missed it. Anybody have this on tape and want to
make me a copy? I have stuff to trade (like a Mr. Bungle CD or I
can tape anything I have) or I can pay for it.

	darkangl@sage.cc.purdue.edu (Paul) writes,
Thinking back to when I last saw the "Livecrime" video
(which was, as expected, great) a few things came to mind. The
first is that I'm jealous of those who lived in an area that had
the live performance of Mary. The interaction there was great.
Someone asked why there wasn't as much chatter on the
video as on the disc, unless I'm mistaken the performances are
not entirely identical. On the video Geoff asks if anyone knows
what happened to Mary, and that's not on the disc.
Also in 'Suite Sister Mary' I noticed that he managed to
rip the knee out in his leather pants. What happened to the
leather jacket? He was spinning it, and I believe he threw it.
Did anyone notice where it landed (he didn't really throw it out
	to the audience, did he)?
As a side note, the guitar count is: Chris - 5 (6 if you
count a double neck as 2, and his best guitar was the red one
with the crossed swords), Michael - 4 (the mottled grey, as it
appeared, was the best), and Eddie - only 2 (but that black bass
was just great, why would you need another). Any opinions on the
	subject of design?

All my shopping's memory now, I've gone to all the malls by now.
I bought all that I really should, but now I wanna buy some more.
My credit limits I've broken, releasing the funds from my wallet,
Maybe I can go home now and, oh, wrap all the presents

And still I'm sitting here, I'm digesting a grand new fruitcake,
I'm a fool in search of Santa, and I'm on the road to Christmas.
