        NEW ALBUM tdely@fl51p01.space.honeywell.com (Troy)
As far as the new album goes, I too have heard December
or January. I doubt that it will be released in December. Most
major labels do not release many albums that close to Christmas.
They want at least a month of sales before, or they will wait
until the new year. However, I will continue to bug my EMI
        contact until he cracks.

        LONG VIDEOS edju@chaph.usc.edu (Eddie)
Being reluctant to play an uncut 'Anybody Listening'
video is ridiculous, considering how eMpTV has been plugged those
long videos from Dream Theater and Iron Maiden's "Fear of the
Dark" live - clocking in just under 8 minutes!

        ANYBODY LISTENING nrbogan@athena.mit.edu (Than)
The radio version of 'Anybody Listening' is also cut, but
you sometimes have to pay the price of commercialism if you want
to give your music a chance to reach the people who can
appreciate it more fully. Just a thought.
{Actually, the local station here (happy 25th
                        anniversary, WMMR!) plays the long one.  -sh}

        RADIO REQUESTS matte@pluto.gvg.tek.com (Matt)
A while back a local radio station (KRXQ-FM) in
Sacramento did an AIDS benefit weekend where listeners could call
up and make a pledge, in return they were granted a request for
_any_ song the station had in its library. My mind reeled at the
possibilities. Having worked at the station for two years I knew
they had all the 'Ryche CDs except "Warning." I wanted to choose
something that never had and otherwise never would receive
airplay and finally settled on 'Neue Regel' from "Rage for
Order." It was hilarious listening to the jock's backsell, he
sounded completely bewildered and had a terrible time trying to
pronounce the song title. I'm wondering what song other SiD
readers would have chosen given this opportunity.

        BACARDI TRI-RYCHE? cg18fbv@icogsci1.ucsd.edu (Rich)
Has anybody else noticed how much the tri-ryche resembles
the logo for Bacardi rum? Or have I partaken of too much 151?
                        {It's all part of the conspiracy.  -sh}

        RENEWING MY FAITH vhalen@acs.bu.edu (Brian)
I just wanted to share my little experience this morning
with all the 'Ryche fans out there. It's been a while since
I've listened to "Operation: Mindcrime," and I popped it on this
morning. It is, in fact, my favorite album of all time. When
those drums kicked at the beginning I realized that I need to
start listening to this album a lot more, especially because
it's summertime again in Boston. It makes you ask what else is
there to life except the Red Sox, Harpoon Stout, and Queensryche.

        MINDCRIME VIRUS leo@cp.tn.tudelft.nl (Leo)
A few days ago a new, extremely nasty computer virus
(affecting Apple Macintosh computers) was discovered at
Dartmouth College. This virus will do all sorts of fun stuff
like renaming your files to random strings, change file creation
dates, etc. One particular item immediately struck me as I read
the virus description: "In some cases, one file or folder on a
disk may be renamed 'Virus MindCrime'."
Can there be a Queensryche connection here (hey, I
suppose even criminals must listen to *something*), or is
MindCrime a more generally known word? Gives a whole new
meaning to the phrase "Spreading the Disease."
{Mindcrime is definitely not a common word. Ok,
                        which one of you Dartmouth folks did it?  -sh}

        QUEENSRYCHE TATTOOS? robertb@uniforum.org (Robert)
I've been forwarding SiD to my sister, who turned me on
to Queensryche. She had a question for the readership: Do any
of you have Queensryche-oriented tattoos, and where are they
located? She has the tri-ryche, but it's located in such a spot
that, being her brother, I've never gotten to see it.
                        {We want pictures!  -sh}

        _Roads to Madness__________________________________________Shows_

        WARRIOR SOUL grendel@src4src.linet.org (Don)
I saw Queensryche twice on the last tour - once with
Suicidal Tendencies and once with Warrior Soul. I had listened
to Warrior Soul's debut (I've forgotten the title) and figured
these guys would put on a decent opening set - much like most of
you on the list. However, when the singer started screaming
"F**k Bush! F**k Bush!", expecting the crowd to get into it, no
one did. After that song, they didn't draw any response from
the crowd. After their set, just about everyone (myself
included) said the same thing: "Gee. They sucked."

        TRI-RYCHE BY PUSHEAD cl238527@ulkyvx.louisville.edu (Windigo)
There is a Camelot by my house that carries some imports,
interview discs etc., and I saw the Dutch 'Empire' CD single. The
artwork is by Pushead (of Metallica t-shirt fame) and he has a,
well, interesting interpretation of the tri-ryche. Anybody else
seen the "skull tri-ryche" other than on the aforementioned CD?
(I also happen to be a fan of Pushead's artwork.)
{The same cover is on the vinyl singles of
"Silent Lucidity" which were released in the UK.
Another Pushead design, a variation on the US
flag, was used as a backdrop on the tour and is
                        available on a T-shirt from the fan club.  -sh}

        LIVE IN TOKYO tdely@fl51p01.space.honeywell.com (Troy)
I found my copy of "Live in Tokyo" during my first
semester of college in August of 1988 in backwoods Anderson, SC
at a video store for $15. I know my local Blockbuster Video
carries this title, and I am sure that they would order it for
        anyone interested.

        LIVE IN TOKYO jans8925@iscsvax.uni.edu (Eric)
Recently I was in Blockbuster and I found "Live In Tokyo"
in the used bargain bin. I purchased it for $4.88! What a deal!

        LASERDISCS matte@pluto.gvg.tek.com (Matt)
It figures, the _next day_ after I find a VHS copy of
"Building Empires" I read in SiD that LaserDiscs are available.
Anybody know if there will be (cheaper) domestic releases of the
LDs to follow or are the Japanese imports the final word? Also
on the subject of LDs, I saw that there are disks of the Clapton
and Mariah Carey MTV Unplugged sessions, anyone know if the
Queensryche session was/will be released on LD? (I have a
videotape of it, but would love a LD).
{If Laserdiscs get really popular in the USA,
there could be a domestic release, but there
would probably just be increased availability of
                        imports, which would mean lower prices.  -sh}

        UNPLUGGED CD? sjs@bae.bellcore.com (Steve)
Does anyone know if there is a status on EMI coming out
with a MTV Unplugged CD for the Queensryche session?
{My guess is that the songs from the Unplugged
                        session will be B-sides on future singles.  -sh}

        SHEET MUSIC ad028@freenet.carleton.ca (Ian)
Warner Brothers Music recently released two Queensryche
song portfolios. "Empire" and "Operation: Mindcrime" are now
available in complete guitar tab. The only draw back is the
books contain _selections_ from the albums, not the whole album.
They're a little expensive ($24.95) but are well worth the money.

        CD-SINGLES crgould@amoco.com (Clayton Gould)
My friend Bill purchased the 'Empire' Maxi-CD that
contains 'Scarborough Fair' almost 2 years ago for $11.95 in
Chicago. It can still be found at disc stores that specialize
in imports, used/new CDs, and novelty discs. Mainstream stores
will not carry this treasure. Also, is that CD-single of
'Anybody Listening?' and 'Scarborough Fair' the MTV Unplugged
versions? If not, does anyone know if they have released them
        on a different disc?
{That single has the album version of 'Anybody
Listening' and the same version of 'Scarborough
Fair' that's on the 'Empire' single. Both were
performed Unplugged, but never broadcast or
                        released.  -sh}

        _The Whisper__________________________________________Discussion_

        ROSARY INTERPRETATION ewk102@psuvm.psu.edu (Eric)
I think that the saying 'your rosary wrapped around your
throat' is more a figurative way of saying that 'the church' kept
Nikki from being able to fully 'express' his love for Mary. I
don't think that Mary used a rosary to kill herself, but it is
possible, and besides - we're talking about videos here and when
was the last time you saw a video correspond to the meaning of a
song 100%? Some ideas expressed by songs are meant to be felt
and seen in the minds eye, not on a video screen.

        ROSARY INTERPRETATION ehanson@umbc.edu (Erik)
Just because Nikki said "your rosary wrapped around your
throat" doesn't mean that Mary was strangled with her rosary. It
could be metaphoric - it could be that Nikki feels that religion
killed Mary, and it was a good metaphor because she happened to
wear a rosary. Anyway, isn't a rosary just a string with some
beads and a medallion at the end? Do you think you could
strangle yourself with such a thing? Wouldn't it break? (I've
only seen a rosary once, and it was about ten years ago, so I
        might be way off.)

        PRELUDE TO MINDCRIME cl238527@ulkyvx.louisville.edu (Windigo)
I have felt that 'Chemical Youth (We Are Rebellion)' off
"Rage For Order" may, in fact, be a _possible_ prelude to
"Operation: Mindcrime." If not, it is _very_ interesting that
they should have a song with very similar themes to the first
few songs on "Operation: Mindcrime" ('Revolution Calling,' etc.,
before he realizes he has to kill Mary). So what do you guys
        think?

        GEOFF'S TRAINING cmr@cck.coventry.ac.uk (Chris)
About Geoff's vocal training, I read an article from June
1986, and Chris said that Geoff had some lessons from Ronnie
James Dio when they toured together!
