_Screaming in Digital______________________________Editor's Note_
Greetings! Bit of a full issue this week, so I won't say
much. The only note is that I'm planning to visit the screen
printing folks today, so those of you who've sent in for T-shirts
can be happy, progress is being made.

_Neue Regel___________________________________________What's New_
LAST ACTION HERO mark.badolato@asu.edu (Mark)
My girlfriend heard on the radio the other day that
Queensryche was doing the soundtrack for Arnold's new pic. They
didn't say much, nor did they say if Queensryche was doing the
entire soundtrack or just a few songs. I seem to recall hearing
about a new album this summer, so maybe that's what it is.
SOUNDTRACK ip15085@portland.caps.maine.edu (Kevin)
I was watching MTV the other night, and they mentioned
that Queensryche was going to have a new song on the "Last Action
Hero" soundtrack, coming out on June 8th. The name of the song
is 'Living in the Real World.' Aerosmith, Alice-n-Chains, AC-DC,
and Megadeth are also going to have songs on the soundtrack.
{I believe Fishbone will also be on the
soundtrack. -sh}

LAST TIME IN PARIS om1ey3@greenwich.ac.uk (Mike)
The only reason I bought the re-issue of 'Silent
Lucidity' was that 'Last Time in Paris' was on it (Even though
it is a wonderful picture disc). It's a _good_ song, by that I
mean an interesting departure from their usual style.
VIRUS MINDCRIME ian.ellison@um.cc.umich.edu (Ian)
The virus discovered at Dartmouth was almost certainly
written by a Queensryche fan or someone who had at the very least
heard of that album. Although as any '1984' fan knows,
'crimethink' or (as it is sometimes misquoted) 'thought crime' is
a more commonly known term (or maybe not, judging by
Queensryche's newfound success and the dearth of literate youth)
but 'mindcrime' is a Queensryche term exclusively as far as I can
tell.
FAN CLUB IN UK? om1ey3@greenwich.ac.uk (Mike)
Are there many members of the US Queensryche fan club in
the UK? If so, what's the delay in orders/newsletter delivery
like. And is anyone a member of the UK fan club, and could they
answer the following questions....
What is the UK fan club address?
What is it like compared to the US fan club?
{I didn't know there was a distinct UK club. The
main club has over 8,000 members worldwide. -sh}
QUEEN OF THE REICH VID joe.siegler@u2u.lonestar.org (Joe)
At the end of the video for 'Queen of the Reich,' it says
something about "To be Continued." Was it ever followed up on?
I was curious to see what other videos are around from that era,
because the next vids I ever saw were from "Rage for Order."
{No, they never did make a sequel to that video.
A performance video of 'Nightrider' is on the
"Building Empires" tape. -sh}

NEXT TOUR OPENERS? mikkolaa@iscmed.med.ge.com (Al)
All this talk going on about Queensryche's opening acts
(no I won't mention any names :) brings up the question, "Who
would everybody like to see as opening act on Queensryche's next
tour?" It seems as if we would have a few votes for Dream
Theater, which would be OK with me. However, if I had my choice,
I would definitely pick Fates Warning. Their style is similar to
Queensryche's and their lyrics are "intelligent" - I think they
would fit in great with Queensryche.
I know Ray Alder (Fates Warning's lead singer) has
expressed interest in touring with Queensryche in the past, so
you wouldn't have to twist his arm too much. I personally would
kill to see this combo live!
{Personally, I'd like to see what I'd term a
prog-a-palooza show, with Fates Warning, Crimson
Glory, Dream Theater, Rush, Queensryche, and any
other prog-rock or prog-metal bands -sh}
_Spreading the Disease_________________________________Resources_
OVERSEEING OPERATION om1ey3@greenwich.ac.uk (Mike)
I have a vinyl 10 inch condensed version of "Operation:
Mindcrime," and I was wondering if it is a rare edition.
{I strongly suspect it's the "Overseeing the
Operation" item, in which case, yes, it's a
rarity - rarer still outside Europe. -sh}
OVERSEEING OPERATION gerhard@jason.nl (Gerhard)
The "Overseeing the Operation" 10" has been released in
Holland (only limited), and since it was in my 'even less money
than today' days, I didn't buy it (stupid, stupid stupid), later
I saw it on some record fairs, but asking prices were way too
high for me (bastards).
OVERSEEING OPERATION dwb4025@rigel.tamu.edu (Dave)
As far as the "Overseeing the Operation" disk is
concerned, it is fairly rare. I have just found a copy of it
which is autographed by all 5 members, but it is a rare item,
and i would recommend that people out there pick it up if they
see it around.
BUILDING EMPIRES IN OZ s1170796@giaec.cc.monash.edu.au (Phillip)
I still can't believe this. After listening to everyone
talking about how great the "Building Empires" video is with the
film clips, unplugged, etc, I still can't believe it is not
available in Australia yet. Does anyone know what EMI are
playing at?
It seems whenever I ask my local record store about it,
they have no clues on when it is coming out, and the only reason
they know it exists is because I have told them about it. Does
anyone in Australia have the video? Maybe it is a conspiracy
against us on a national level.
_The Whisper__________________________________________Discussion_
BASIS OF THE WARNING gerhard@jason.nl (Gerhard)
As for "The Warning" being based on Sci-fi albums, that
would be completely new to me. I'm reasonably proud of my
collection of old Queensryche interviews and such (only all of
them are in Dutch, so don't ask for transcriptions and such),
and it isn't mentioned there. Actually "The Warning" isn't
discussed much in them, accept to say that it was f*cked up in
the mix.
MEANING OF THE WARNING vhalen@acs.bu.edu (Brian)
I, myself, am also wondering what 'The Warning' is all
about. When I originally bought it about 2 years ago, I
listened to it about, oh, 1/2 a time. I couldn't get through it
because it was so bizarre. But I listened to it a lot this past
weekend, and it's actually pretty decent, but there's some stuff
I don't understand, like, 'NM 156.' What's that about? Sorry
if these are frequently asked questions, but I'd like to know.
What's the theme here? Please fill me in.
{"The Warning" is generally viewed as being an
album about rather nasty future possibilities, a
warning, if you will, against humankind taking
courses of action which would lead to the things
mentioned in the songs. -sh}
_The Killing Words_________________________Babble Interpretation_
DOCTOR BLAIR AGAIN dwb4025@rigel.tamu.edu (Dave)
Another sighting of the "Doctor Blair" blurb from
"Mindcrime" - it is now used in an AT&T commercial.
ANYBODY LISTENING? bellivea@ctron.com (Alan)
If you listen to the _whole_ of 'Anybody Listening,' at
the end during the thunder storm you can hear some voices. It
kinda sounds like Geoff and a woman. I can't make out what they
say and that's what's bothering me. Does anybody know what is
being said there? So basically, is anybody listening?
{Many theories have been offered about what's
said there, but no one seems to be sure. -sh}
_Breaking the Silence__________________________None of the Above_
FORTUNE & LORDBANE robr@kdx200.enet.dec.com (Rob)
Last I knew, Fortune no longer played covers. I used to
love them when they were a cover band, but I find their originals
rather boring and straight forward. As far as the singer, hardly
incredible. He's improved since his last band, but he always
looked and dressed like whatever Geoff was doing at the time.
Last night though I just heard a demo that really
impressed me: Lordbane (yes, named after the Stephen R.
Donaldson book). Cool tempo changes, great riffs, killer vocals.
Great stuff. Also, FYI, Fortune will be playing with Kansas this
summer at the Hampton Beach Casino.
OUIJA smm@uunet.uu.net (Steve)
I was at a Dream Theater concert in Virginia Beach, and
their opening band, Ouija, was pretty impressive, especially
considering their singer had been with them for only a month.
They did a pretty good cover of 'Walk in the Shadows,' as well
as a couple other covers, but the other 8 tunes were all
originals, and in general pretty good. Unfortunately they did
not have any demo tapes or anything as of yet, but I'm watching
out for anything. I'll be down there this weekend, so I'll see
if I can dig up any dirt from the local record stores. The only
"bad" thing about the band was that while their guitar player was
pretty impressive, a lot of the riffs sounded like they needed a
second guitar before they'd sound complete. Their singer looks
like Barbara Streisand, too. Great set of pipes though.
VINI DOMINE jebusha@uccs.edu (Jim)
Vini Domine is a new Christian progressive metal band
from Sweden. This band is the closest I've ever heard to
Queensryche. The singer's voice is a clone of Geoff's. Anybody
that likes Queensryche, Fates Warning, Dream Theater will love
this band and should give em' a try.
{Insert usual "may be offensive to satanists"
disclaimer. Oh, and I guessed at the spelling,
based on my limited knowledge of Latin. -sh}
OTHER COOL DIGESTS gerhard@jason.nl (Gerhard)
I dunno if the first-name last-name bit works when
subscribing to echoes, the advised use is:
"To subscribe, unsubscribe, or get your subscription
changed, do the following:
1) send mail to echoserv@fawnya.tcs.com
2) put one of the following commands in the body of the message:
for "real-time" mode: add echoes
for "digest" mode: add-digest echoes
3) end your message with the command "quit." This stops the
parsing of the file, so that no error messages are generated
for material which follows (e.g. your .sig)." (quotes from the
welcome message you get when subscribing).
DREAM THEATER om1ey3@greenwich.ac.uk (Mike)
Yet another Dream Theater fan here! I saw them at the
Marquee last month, and I have to say that I have never benn
blown away so much by a band until I saw Dream Theater. In fact
I remember thinking - thank god there are still bands about that
play like this. James' voice is kinda rough on stage, but then
most 'screamers' are. "Images and Words" is a great album, but
they can do better, like putting the instrumentals that they
play live on an album, its possible that there might be a live
album about soon, as they were recording the Marquee gig that I
was at. Any Dream Theater fans out there, feel free to drop me
a line.
{Hope you've joined up to Ytsejam, their digest,
it's quite good, I recommend it. -sh}
