_Screaming_in_Digital______________________________Editor's Note_
Greetings, everyone out there! Once again I'm out of
state - as those of you in Iowa City can attest - so the FTP
archive on Glia won't be getting updated quite as frequently as
one might hope. However, Nick's WorldWideWeb page is online, so
you can play with that.

New Album Charles <popllama@u.washington.edu>
I was talking with my EMI rep this last week and I asked
him if he knew anything about the new album. He said it was
slated for late spring release - he apparently had a list in
front of him. He too said that it is supposed to be really
ethereal in nature and very different from their past work, but
then again wasn't "Empire" described that way originally too?
It's nice working in the radio business, because I'll be getting
a pre-release CD as soon as it comes in! ;)
Making of New Album Squrille <C561423@mizzou1.missouri.edu>
Whee! The band is _filming_ the recording of this new
work! Maybe, once and for all, we will finally know how the
group functions and if Eddie really is a goof-off. Of course,
just what will be edited out?
Queensryche WWW Page Nick <nk24+ryche@andrew.cmu.edu>
Announcing the Queensryche WWW page! The good stuff:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu:8001/afs/cs.cmu.edu/user/nkramer/ryche/ryche.html
To use, fire up your favorite WWW browser - such as
Mosaic, Lynx, or Cello - and look for something like "Launch via
URL." It's under "File" in Mosaic.
Sushi Retiring? Shane <esbrown@miavx3.mid.muohio.edu>
I just received the new Ryche-N-Roll Times and at the
end, Metal Sushi makes a small speech about her being very early
in the fan club, then being able to run the fan club - now she is
turning the club to someone named Tina - does this mean Sushi is
retiring and letting someone more younger and talented run the
club? Does this mean it will change? Does _anyone_ have any
answers?
{I'm away from home and thus haven't got my copy
yet, but a mutual friend of Sushi and me has told
me that Sushi's very busy with other activities.
I suspect that caused the change. -sh}
_The_Whisper__________________________________________Discussion_
How Mary Died <carpenter@philos.umass.edu>
"Flesh Ripped by Weasels" is an album by the illustrious
and late Frank Zappa. If I remember correctly the album cover
depicted a man shaving with a weasel (i.e. an electric shaver).
I'm not sure this has any connection or validity though to the
plot line. It may just be a possibility that someone wants to
scream it. I would, if given the chance.
How Mary Died Christopher <christopher.white@mccaw.com>
I believe that she didn't just hang herself, but hung
herself with her rosary, a la "your rosary wrapped around your
throat" in 'Eyes of a Stranger.'
Queensryche Philosophy Scott <stephenssj@alpha.hendrix.edu>
I've been taking a philosophy course in college and
several of the philosophers we've studied seem to have shades of
influence on many of Queensryche's lyrics and ideals. For
example, Marx's entire _Das Kapital_ goes along very closely with
the "Mindcrime" story. The entire religion thing in "Mindcrime,"
was portrayed as simply being used as a tool or system of
control. Marx had a famous quote, "Religion is the opiate of the
people," meaning religion was simply a tool used to suppress the
revolutionary qualities of the masses and "keep them in check."
Also, the communist/socialist overtones in the song "Mindcrime"
fit very well in Marx's philosophy concerning economics. You
know, "everybody choosing, everybody making the same." Marx
believed in a classless society, which seems to be the method
outlined in these lyrics. Anybody else got any input? Also,
please correct me if I'm wrong on anything - perhaps I'm digging
too deep. I'd really appreciate any further input on this issue,
not simply Marx but other philosophical influences as well.
Also, does anybody have any clue to Queensryche's
religious beliefs? I heard that Geoff started singing in the
church choir. Just curious.

Mary's Vocals Ty <smitht@clp2.clpgh.org>
Maybe you can help me on a debate I have had with some
friends. There is an equal amount of people on each side of the
issue.
Who sings the parts that are spoken by the character
Mary? For example, "I feel the flow, the blessed stain." Is it
Tate or a woman? And if it is a woman is it Pamela Moore, who
does Mary's voice when talking? Is it the woman on the video
screen when they did their concert - and if so who is she - or
someone else different all together? And if it is a woman, why
didn't Tate sing it? He has the range. He sings Nikki and Dr.
X and everyone else.
{It is, indeed, Pamela Moore, who is also the
woman portrayed onscreen at the concert. My
guess is that the band just felt Mary should be
sung by a female - and her voice is very close
to Geoff's, yes. -sh}
Latin Hymn Clive <amg0033@v2.qub.ac.uk>
In the last issue, someone asked about the title of the
Latin Hymn sang during 'Suite Sister Mary.' Shag suggested it
was 'Dies Irae' (Day Of Wrath).
I have this hymn done by Christian progressive thrash
band Believer on their "Sanity Obscure" CD. It has female
soprano vocals, like those on 'Suite Sister Mary,' and is rather
surreal, apart from the ending where there is a blend of heavy
orchestration mixed with Believer crunchy riffs.
I'm pretty sure the hymn on Suite Sister Mary is _not_
'Dies Irae.' I have the lyrics of this - on the Believer album
it's sung in Latin, but I have both Latin and English - so if
anybody wants the lyrics to see if they can match them with
what's being sung in Suite Sister Mary, I can e-mail them.
The Killing Words James <hunsleyj@bach.siue.edu>
Just for the record, the "wireless" or cordless phone
was commercially available in 1984, which leads me to believe
that it was a "wireless" in his hand.
Doctor Feelgood Neil <neilu@gti-ia.nl>
Funny about that "Dr. Feelgood." I remember when that
album came out and we sat about laughing about how they'd ripped
Queensryche off! Not only does it include the hospital sample,
but have a good look at the cover artwork. Dr. Feelgood is
written in red and the second "leg" of the letter 'R' in 'Dr'
has a line through it to make it a cross - or an X. Dr. X -
funny eh?

Meeting the Band Scott <stephenssj@alpha.hendrix.edu>
Many of you have said that you have met the band (many on
several occasions). I am very curious - how did this come about?
Sometimes it seems very nonchalant in the way everyone talks
about it, but it would be a tremendous experience to me!

Promo CDs Wanted Stephen <nrm2147@rserver3.dsac.dla.mil>
I'm looking for "Evolution Calling" and "The Sound of
Building Empires." Maybe someone can help.
Mailing Labels Kathy <tbsr03a@prodigy.com>
A few weeks ago, Kevin Scurlock sent in an ad for
Queensryche return address labels. I was the one who was selling
the labels. I got an excellent response from SiD readers - I
should hire Kev as a business manager!. I know that the labels
were just posted two weeks ago or so, but since that time, I am
asking that everyone send me a SASE because the postage cost got
a little out of hand when I was mailing out the brochures.
Anyone interested in information should send a SASE to:
Kathleen Krzesinski
12834 South Saginaw Avenue
Chicago, Illinois 60633-1754
Brochures were mailed out on the 4th in response to requests
sent in two weeks ago.
