BAND INFORMATION: Who to blame for what you've been listening to
----------------------------------------------------------------

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: What is "My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult"?
A: There are a couple of answers to that one, actually. The most obvious
of them would be that it's a band which is/was (that bit sort of depends
on who you ask, and what day it is when you do the asking) based out of
Chicago. Then again, there's always the interpretation which involves a
bit more of their history...
Once upon a very long time ago (stretching as far back as the early
1980s, if such a thing can be believed), there was a noise-and-art band
that went by the name "Hammerhead Housewife and the Thrill Kill Kult"; you
probably haven't heard of them. This is likely the result of the fact that,
come 1987, they got fed up with their lack of success and set about trying
to turn their latest project into rent money by getting themselves signed
to a record label.
During this label-shopping phase, Groovie and Buzz (the core of the band
at the time, more or less) approached Dannie Flesher and Jim Nash (the guys
from Wax Trax! Records) with the beginnings of a movie called... you
guessed it. Apparently, Jim and Dannie were more interested in the movie's
soundtrack than in the picture itself, and convinced the aspiring musicians
to turn it into the _My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult_ EP (WAX 039). The
rest should be pretty obvious.
Recently, though, the band have been expressing some interest in
completing the movie that they're sort of named after, though nothing
concrete has been announced by either their own bad selves or the scads
of record labels that might be in on the deal.

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: Who makes up/has made up the band?
A: Like most bands, the roster of TKK has changed a fair bit over the
years. Granted, there have always been a few core members, but things
have been in a state of flux pretty consistently since Day One. A more-
or-less-chronological listing, including members who have since departed,
follows.

Groovie Mann / Frank(ie) Nardiello: Lead vocals, lyrics
Buzz McCoy / Marston Daley: Vocals, lyrics, guitar,
      production
Levi Levi / Charles Levi: Bass (converted in '91)
Buck Ryder / Thomas ?: Keyboards, samples (now with
      EHC; see below)
  Wolfgang Dodge / ?: World's Greatest Roadie,
      horns on H&RH
Skip Towne / ?: Drums on first tour
Cliff Powerz / ?: Drums on Sexplosion tour
Amber Guitarstar / William Tucker: Guitars on Sexplosion I and
      II tours
Adam Best / ?: unknown (on Sexplosion
      II tour)
Marquis McCabe / Mark McCabe: unknown (on Inferno X-Press
      II tour)
Otto Mattix / ?: Drums, lightshow on 13ATN
Trash Kavity / Bruce ?: Guitars on 13ATN
Martini / Sean Jordan: Keyboards on H&RH tour
  Dick Fury / ?: Drums on H&RH
Beatmistress / Linda LeSabre: Drums on H&RH tour
? / David ?: Guitars on upcoming LP
  ? / Jason ?: assorted roadie tasks

Other touring personnel have included Fluffy Montecarlo (better knowns as
Keith Auerbach, the Chicago Trax engineer and production guy) and Ava
Luscious and Ten of Instant Action, the roving film production crew.
The latest word from the TKK crew indicates that Martini was only around
for the duration of the _Hit & Run Holiday_ tour, and that Wolfgang has
also taken his leave of the band for the time being.

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: Who are the Bomb Gang Girlz?
A: In a manner of speaking, they're the product of a deranged imagination.
According to at least one source, the Bomb Gang Girlz started out as a way
of milking the Wax Trax! coffers for a bit of extra money; Buzz and Groovie
reportedly pitchshifted their voices up an octave or two on the first
couple of Thrill Kill Kult EPs and claimed to have hired a couple of backup
singers who needed to be paid (at the label's expense, of course).
Soon enough, it was time for the Kult to go on tour and, not wanting to
be caught without their "backup singers", the guys rushed out in search of
real live replacements who could sing, dance, play keyboards, and model
some breathtaking leather duds. Before long, the first of the Girlz were
hired, resulting in a touring complement made up of Groovie, Buzz, Buck
Ryder, Skip Towne, Rhonda "Pickles" Bond, Kitty Killdare, and the one and
only Jacky Blacque.
Since then, the Bomb Gang Girlz' lineup has included:

Jacky Blacque / Rachel Hollingsworth: Vocals
Kitty Killdare / Laura Gomel: Keyboards, vocals
Rhonda "Pickles" Bond / ?: Vocals
Sekret DeZyre / Laura Dame: Vocals on Sexplosion! tour
  Cinderella Pussie / Marcia <DON'T ASK>: Vocals
Arena Rock / Carmen Marusich: Vocals, production on
      _Hit & Run Holiday_

It would seem that, at least as of the latest tour, Kitty is no longer with
the band; "Pickles" and Sekret have also long since given up on the touring
thing, which is allegedly why Cinderella was hired in the first place.
Speaking of Cinderella... well, she has worked pretty hard to keep her
private life private, so please don't root through her garbage trying to
find out what her last name is, okay? At her request, I won't publish it.

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: Is there a connection between TKK and the Electric Hellfire Club?
A: That depends on how you define the word "connection". A few years
back, Buck Ryder -- the guy who triggered samples a-plenty during the
Kult's live shows for a while -- decided that he could do better than to
crank out disco-ish music for Interscope and set out to do his own thing.
The result of this split was the Electric Hellfire Club, a band which is
currently recording for Cleopatra Records and which has just released its
third album, _Calling Dr. Luv_.
Aside from Buck's presence (he now goes by the name Thomas Thorn, which
some have suggested is an homage to _The Omen_) and the Satanic overtones
of most of the band's music, there really isn't that much of a connection
between the two groups. Nonetheless, they have still been the topic of a
good deal of conversation on the TKK list.

[NEW SECTION!]
Q: Who are these Death Ride 69 people I keep reading about?
A: Just like the Electric Hellfire Club, they aren't a TKK side project.
They also aren't a new band, so perhaps a bit of history is in order.
Once upon a bit over a decade ago, Linda LeSabre (who now seems doomed
to be known only for her drumming stint with the Kult) and a couple of
other folks from the Los Angeles area got together to start up a
percussion-heavy band that would satisfy their hunger for stardom and
sex-crazed groupies screaming their names. By 1989, they had undergone a
couple of lineup changes, released a couple of records, and dropped into
a state of near-total obscurity.
Anyhow, around the same time as Beatmistress' stretch of time touring
with the Kult, the latest incarnation of Death Ride 69 was picked up by
Fifth Colvmn Records and their most recent offering, _Screaming Down the
Gravity Well_, is now available for rampant public consumption at Better
Record Stores Near You.
As far as direct connections to the Kult go, Buzz co-produced this
latest disc of theirs, and one can also hear Groovie's melodic crooning
on the club-friendly "Needle" and the slinky "Super Hot Sister 69"...
rush out and buy your copy today!

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: What is their sound/live setup like?
A: The Kult's sound is more than a little bit difficult to describe.
Initially, the material that they turned out on Wax Trax! sounded a good
deal like the rest of the Wax Trax! catalogue, if a bit more frenetic and
prone to sampling; since the release of _Sexplosion!_ and the subsequent
move to Interscope, however, their sound has been described as being a
sort of "gothic-techno-industrial-dance-disco", if that helps any.
"Psycho-babble-dingbat-funk" appears to be the band's best effort to date
at categorizing their own sound.
As for their live setup, the best descriptions that I've seen to date
came from the TKK mailing list ("Lots of tight clothes," wrote dRaven)
and a recent interview in Raygun magazine ("A soundtrack for some bikini
surf sex encounter that someone's about to have, hopefully me," from the
Nov. 95 issue). That probably doesn't help much, either...
Several not-so-fans are fond of harping on the allegations made by
other not-so-fans that a fair number of performances on the Sextasy Ball
tour were synched to DAT recordings, making for shows that involved more
dancing and silliness than actual musicianship. While several other
accounts insist that nothing has ever been played entirely off of tape,
the band hasn't even gone so far as to dignify the accusations with an
answer.
There have also been gobs of complaints registered about the disco
sound by those among the ranks of the industrial purists. While the band
has often commented on the fact that they had always wanted to record
something in that vein, many will be pleased to note that the early word
on _A Crime for All Seasons_ (the soon-to-be-released album) likens it to
their older material.

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: What other musical projects have the members of TKK been involved with?
A: Almost without question, this is the section of the FAQ that I have
come to dread updating the most, as keeping the huge list of names and
dates straight becomes more difficult by the month. Anyhow, the most
recent attempt at doing so follows:

GROOVIE MANN: Once the front-man for Special Affect, a Chicago-area glam/
punk band (which also featured Ministry's Al Jourgensen on guitar,
though Frankie delights in pointing out that he almost wasn't hired)
which doesn't appear to have released anything during its short life,
Mr. Nardiello has since done a fair bit of work with Ministry over the
past decade: he was responsible for lighting on one tour, and was also
credited on the "Stigmata" single, both for painting the cover artwork
and for providing vocals on the b-side, "Tonight We Murder" (which is
also featured on the soundtrack to the movie _Demon Knight_).

Outside of the Ministry camp, he was also featured on the track
"Mindblower" (from Psychic TV guitarist Fred Gianelli's solo album,
_Fred_), to which he contributed vocals. Recently, he has also made
mention of several side-projects that he would like to work on with
former label-mates and touring partners; keep an eye out for news on
Luciferian-Kancerian (with Chris Connelly), Slobbertoy (with the Big
Stick gang), and something involving everybody's favourite bald guy,
  En Esch.

BUZZ MCCOY: One of the busier members of the band, Buzz made up one half
of the band Excessive Force (KMFDM's Sascha Konietzko was the other 50%),
which is responsible for several remixes on assorted KMFDM singles, not
to mention two XF albums and several singles on Wax Trax! (though Buzz
was only involved with _Conquer Your World_ and "Conquer Your House").

Other remixes that he has been involved with include Sascha's treatment
of Dink's "Get On It" and the TKK mix of KMFDM's "Naive" (which he did
all by his lonesome); other bands that he has worked with include
Pigface (who credit him with assistance on the live album _Welcome to
Mexico... Asshole_) and Death Ride 69 (their most recent album having
been co-produced with band member Mark Blasquez). A brief period working
with Jim "Foetus" Thirlwell and Raymond "Pig" Watts on their project,
Steroid Maximus, has also been mentioned here and there, though nobody
has been able to confirm this as of yet.

LEVI LEVI: If anybody in the band doesn't see the inside of his own home
very often, it's Charles Levi, who has turned up with countless bands
over the past few years. A brief rundown follows:

  - Chemlab: part of the band for the tour in support of _East Side
    Militia_;
  - Die Warzau: credited on _Engine_;
  - Haloblack: toured with the band for two months in early 1995
  - Hell3ent: a Fifth Colvmn collaborative band, also featuring Chemlab's
Jared and Dylan, Haloblack's Bryan Barton, and 16 Volt's Eric Powell,
    their first release (_0.01_) saw the light of day in February '96;
  - the band formerly known as IceNine: an unsigned band made up of Levi,
James Teitelbaum (Pigface/Evil Clowns) and Danny McGuinness (Coven of
    Thieves), they'll be releasing their first album sometime soon;
  - KMFDM: provided bass on their cover of U2's "Mysterious Ways", found
    on Re-Constriction Records' _Shut Up Kitty_ compilation;
  - Pig: turned up on a handful of songs recorded by Raymond Watts' solo
    venture;
  - Pigface: appeared on _Notes from thee Underground_ and a couple of
    subsequent tours;
  - Sister Machine Gun: credited on _The Torture Technique_ (he played
bass on the songs "Sacrifice" and "Negative"), and also appeared in
the "Wired" video (with Chris Randall, Jim Marcus and others), which
    can be found on Vol. 2 of the Wax Trax! video sampler;
  - ?: following the breakup of Die Warzau, Van Christie assembled a band
with ex-NIN and Die Warzau keyboardist James Wooley and Lick's Jason
McNinch to do a couple of shows around the Chicago area; whether or
not the band was ever formally named is unknown.

JACKY BLACQUE: In addition to being the creative inspiration for most of
_Hit & Run Holiday_ (which was originally supposed to be a Bomb Gang
Girlz album), Jacky provided vocals for the Excessive Force track "Blow
Your House Down", from the album _Conquer Your World_.

KITTY KILLDARE: Kitty has been a member of Pigface in recent years,
contributing vocals (along with Martin Atkins) to the track "Fuck It Up"
(on _Notes from thee Underground_) and appearing on the Pigface Team '94
  tour.

BEATMISTRESS: Linda LeSabre is another one of those artists whose name
has been all over the place in recent years: her own projects, Death
Ride 69 (whose albums, _Death Ride 69: The CD_ and the more electronic
_Screaming Down the Gravity Well_ are floating around out there in the
ozone) and Beatmistress (a tribal-percussion band) are mentioned a fair
bit on r.m.i., and she has also appeared with the Vampire Rodents
(providing vocals on "Terra Amata", from the album _Clockseed_) and
Pain Emission (on the compilation track "Headcheese").

TRASH KAVITY: While there doesn't appear to be any information available
online on either band, Trash's name has been mentioned in relation to
two bands, "Kill Joy" and "Skin and Bones". Any news on either bands'
sound, releases, etc., would be appreciated.

MISCELLANEOUS: On a semi-related note, the Kult has toured with such wide-
ranging bands as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Machines of Loving Grace,
EMF, Lords of Acid, The Final Cut, Definition FX, Eve's Plum, Big Stick,
  Course of Empire and others.

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: What are Pill Krazed Music and the Mindway Corporation?
A: They're the two most common "organizations" associated with the Thrill
Kill Kult. Pill Krazed Music handles the copyrights on the Kult's music
and lyrics, while the Mindway Corporation exists to take care of the
band's contracts with the outside world and individual band members'
financial liabilities within the band as a whole. Or so it was explained
to me at one point. :)
Another name which often comes up in a similar vein is that of the
Kult Connection, which keeps track of the band's Fan Klub, merchandising,
and what-have-you. If you're at all interested in contacting the band,
correspondence should be addressed to:

The Mindway Corporation
PO Box 608215
Chicago, IL 60660

At least as of a couple of years ago, semi-regular _Fun Fakts_ mailings
would be sent out to everybody on the Connection's mailing list; they
were (and still are) compiled by Tina Casanova, who has been soliciting
submissions for future newsletters in recent months. If you have anything
to submit, send it to her at the address listed above.
One last name that might come up in conjunction with the band's many
recordings is that of StarLust Studios, which is the recording studio
where their material has been recorded lately. Prior to the recording of
_13 Above the Night_, Buzz and Groovie cranked out their musical mayhem
at the aptly named Mindway Studios, though most of _I See Good Spirits
and I See Bad Spirits_ was recorded at Revolting Cock Luc Van Acker's home
studio.

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: What videos have been released so far?
A: Sadly, the band hasn't been terribly active on the video scene to date.
Allusions to the existence of bits and pieces of THE movie abound in
interviews, but their videography to date is rather small. So far, the
list of videos which have been turned up by keen-eyed TKK fans includes:

  - "...And This is What the Devil Does": Directed by Bradley Summers,
this short video is made up of almost the exact same footage as the
slightly longer "The Devil Does Drugs" (see below). It was also
re-edited by roadie par excellence Wolfgang Dodge for inclusion on
    the recently-released TKK video compilation.
  - "The Devil Does Drugs": As mentioned above, this is essentially an
extended version of "...And This is What the Devil Does" with a tiny
amount of additional footage tacked on to round things out.
  - "Kooler than Jesus": Produced and directed by Dion Labriola (a
Chicago-area DJ in the late '80s), this video supposedly set the band
back all of $1000... it was also marked the first appearance of Bomb
    Gang Girl Sekret DeZyre.
  - "Ride the Mindway": This one was apparently tucked away somewhere in
vault until the Kult's video compilation saw the light of day, as
nobody in any of the online TKK forums had ever heard of it before
they received their copies of the long-awaited videotape in the mail.
  - "Sex on Wheelz": While this could just be a matter of somebody being
confused by the existence of the Cool World version of the song-and-
video combo, two versions of this particular release are said to
exist: the original version (shot while the band was still signed to
Wax Trax! and which likely accompanied the release of that label's
short-lived single) and a re-edited version by Instant Action (which
was unleashed on the public once the Kult had signed with Interscope).
  - "Sex on Wheelz" (Cool World version): Not just another editing job to
coincide with the release of the 1992 movie, this particular video
was actually directed by Almighty Animation God Ralph Bakshi on the
set of _Cool World_. It's worth noting, by the way, that the red-
haired dancing girl who appears now and again is supposed to be the
woman upon whom the character of Holly Would was modelled.
  - "Dream Baby": Another closet-dwelling video that only surfaced with
the release of _Ride the Mindway_... can anybody provide any details
    on it?
  - "Blue Buddha": Directed by L.A. video personality Martha Burr, it was
eventually dragged out to New York for final editing under Buzz's
supervision and is the only TKK video to appear on MTV's oh-so-classy
    "Beavis & Butt-Head".
  - "Blue Buddha" (live): Recorded at the Halloween Jam show from the
Inferno X-Press II tour, this celluloid fragment surfaced on ABC's
    "In Concert".
  - "Final Blindness": Even though Interscope coughed up the money to
produce this video, it never really made it outside of a couple of
rave clubs before vanishing in a puff of smoke. It was assembled from
a bunch of footage by Groovie and one Mark Hejnar.
  - "Glamour is a Rocky Road": Another Hejnar-ific product, this one is
made up of footage from the H&RH tour and could only be found on the
band's video compilation as of a couple of months ago... whether it
has since been released to broadcast outlets or not is unknown.

Release dates for these videos aren't known at this time, and any extra
information that could be supplied would be greatly appreciated, not to
mention handsomely rewarded. Or not.
The Sexplosion tour (1991) also yielded a rockumentary-style TKK film,
assembled by RonLouanne (the name of a production company, also known as
Instant Action), which the band also included on _Ride the Mindway_,
making said tape one of the better investments that a drooling fan could
possibly make in appreciation of his or her favourite band. At least as
of the end of 1996, the tape was going for $19.95 + appropriate shipping
and handling charges, but the Kult Connection can no doubt provide a more
accurate idea of what it will cost you to watch it again and again and
again...

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: Where else has their music appeared?
A: This is another one of those crazy sections of the FAQ which has been
made pretty much obsolete by the updated discography, which can be found
below. However, there are a couple of items which don't quite fit in said
part of the FAQ, so they'll still be listed here in the months to come.
The song "Dimentia 66" also appeared as background music in one scene
in the movie _Sliver_ (that silly Billy Baldwin/Sharon Stone thing from
1993), though it didn't appear on the soundtrack album. "The Devil Does
Drugs" (or one of the many similar-sounding offshoots) also appeared in
the background at one point in _Showgirls_.
TKK fans can also be proud of the fact that a good-sized portion of
the video for "Blue Buddha" appeared in the Beavis & Butt-Head episode,
"Pumping Iron", which originally aired on 28 March, 1994 (during the
show's fourth season).
Daytime TV watchers might have spotted the inclusion of the song
"Delicate Terror" in an episode of Another World a few years back; it
apparently involved one of the recurring characters being bricked into a
tiny room by one diabolical genius or another.
The Ministry track "Tonight We Murder" (which sort of qualifies as TKK
material, right?) was worked into a scene in the 1995 movie _Demon Knight_;
Groovie was listed in the end credits as "Frank Nariello" (BAD SPELLERS OF
THE WORLD UNTIE!).
Other chest-swelling-with-pride moments include the use of an unspecified
song being used in a FOX network promo for one of their brilliant sitcoms,
"Blue Buddha"'s appearance in an MTV Sports feature on surfing, HBO's use
of "Leathersex" in _Real Sex 15_ (that's even worse than the number of
Star Trek sequels...), and the appearance of a TKK poster in Brian Austin
Green's drug dealer's apartment in an episode of "Beverly Hills 90210"
(which put the Kult right up there with Sister Machine Gun in terms of
appearances on Aaron Spelling's various TV shows).

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: Was that really them in _The Crow_?
A: You bet! The club scene around the middle of the movie, which involved
the band playing "After the Flesh" while assorted bad guys were being
thrown out of windows and into the crowd was filmed at some warehouse in
North Carolina, really featured the Thrill Kill Kult in all of the glory.
And no, that wasn't Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor crowd-surfing along in
the pit while they played, so stop asking. :p

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: What's the story with all of these labels and changing release dates?
A: It's actually a pretty painless story to follow along, really. When
the band was first formed, all of their material was released on Wax
Trax! Records, which was an independent record label of sorts devoted to
"strange" music. In the fall of 1992, though, Wax Trax! was forced to
file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and were promptly taken over by the folks
at TVT Records, who gradually re-released most of the Wax Trax! back
catalogue (this accounts for the 1993 release dates on a lot of the older
releases, though these don't appear on the album/single packages).
After the release of the "Sex on Wheelz" single, however, the band
decided to move over to Interscope Records (Groovie's explanation,
given in an interview with dRaven, was something along the lines of "They
offered us more money"), and have been happily recording new material
ever since.
Since the release of _Hit & Run Holiday_, the Kult have moved on to
yet another label, having arranged to release the upcoming _A Crime for
All Seasons_ on Red Ant/Castle/Malicious Vinyl. Whether or not this deal
means that the album will be on store shelves any time soon, though, is
another story entirely...

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: Where did all of those samples come from?
A: Obviously, there have been far too many samples used in TKK material
over the years for that question to be answered in this piddly little
FAQ. The best places to refer to for information on sample sources would
be either Sanitarium Borderline (where a TKK sample list can be found) or
rec.music.industrial (where individual questions can often be answered,
and which is also a commmon source of Peter Cigehn's immense sample
lists; he can be contacted at Peter.Cigehn@um.erisoft.se).
For what it's worth, though, it seems as though a fair number of the
samples from _Confessions of a Knife_ were lifted from the works of '70s
sleaze/horror director Jes Franco, particularly _A Virgin Among the
Living Dead_, which you'll probably have to do some digging to unearth.

Q: Are they touring right now?
A: The standard answer to this question up until now has been "Ask
somebody else", but since the Kult is on the road as this release is being
cobbled together, there's a more-or-less accurate schedule for the all-
new Inferno X-Press tour at http://www.uoguelph.ca/~tmclaren/touring.html.
If you're really desperate for up-to-the-second information, you're
usually best checking with the people who make a living keeping track of
this sort of information. URLs for Pollstar and TicketMaster follow...
blame them if you don't find out about a show before it sells out.

  Pollstar: http://www.pollstar.com/pollstar/search.html
  TicketMaster: http://www.ticketmaster.com

Q: Are any of the band members gay?
A: This question gets asked about pretty much every band on the face of
the planet, doesn't it? For what it's worth, though, Groovie Mann frankly
(HA!) admits to his homosexuality; Buzz and his boyfriend (Tom) were
briefly mentioned in the November 95 article in Raygun; and Beatmistress
has stated in at least one interview that she has more or less "tried
everything", and that the rest of the band seems pretty open to all sorts of
experimentation along similar lines. Given the ambiguous sense of
sexuality that is prevalent in most TKK songs, though, this really isn't
much of a surprise, is it?
One tidbit of information that started floating about around the time
of the Sextasy Ball tour also mentioned that one of the band members was
a full-fledged transsexual... wanna place bets on whether it's true or
not?

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: What TKK resources are available online?
A: Before going any further with this one, it's worth mentioning that
the TKK online mailing list is no more. After a little over a year of
chugging along like clockwork, it went over to the other side in late
1996; at present, there aren't any firm plans to resurrect it, either.
The result, of course, is that you're going to have to rely on the
following resources for your regular TKK fixes:

  WWW: http://pulsar.cs.wku.edu/~draven/tkk.html (TKK homepage)
       http://www.webfire.com/cgi-bin/tkk/lsearch.pl (lyric search)
http://www.tvtrecords.com (TVT's very own Web page)
       http://www.uoguelph.ca/~collingr/contents.html (online FAQ)
       http://www.netwalk.com/~agrooms/mindway.htm (Mindway BBS page)
  FTP site: ftp.uwp.edu
  Usenet: rec.music.industrial, alt.music.mlwttkk
  BBS: 614 781 1760 (Mindway BBS)

THE Web page, Sanitarium Borderline, is loaded down with all sorts of
TKK goodies. After some administrative trouble earlier in the year, it's
back up and kicking more butt than ever. The recent facelift that it was
given didn't hurt things, either... pretty. Very pretty.
The lyric keyword search page lets you search for a given keyword in
any TKK song, as well as specifying the desired type of output, be it a
simple list of songs, the associated lines or the complete lyrics for any
track involving the related keyword.
TVT Records has (recently?) jumped on the WWW bandwagon and set up a
Web page for all of their drooling customers to frequent in search of
news, information and nifty links. There isn't much for TKK fans to drool
over, but at least they provide you with an address to contact in order to
deluge them with requests for information to pass along as FAQ updates.
The last item on the WWW is the online version of this FAQ, which is
generally a bit more trivia-heavy than what you're reading right now, if
only because I've got a big ol' disk quota to fill on that account and
can't think of a better way to do so than to pack it down with TKK
minutiae. Even if you've committed this document to memory, chances are
good that you'll find something there that you didn't already know (or
care about).

The FTP site is the place where song lyrics from all of your favourite
bands, including the Thrill Kill Kult, can be found in huge quantities.
The /pub/music/lyrics/m/my.life.with.the.thrill.kill.kult/ directory is
the one to look under for all of the lyrics that have been compiled to
date; a lot of these files are also available on the Web page. This FAQ
will be available in the /pub/music/faqs directory very shortly (I know I
keep promising that... I'll get around to fixing the headers Real Soon
Now).
Until recently, the only Usenet newsgroup where one stood much of a
chance of seeing any TKK-related postings was rec.music.industrial; this
recently changed with the creation of alt.music.mlwttkk, a group which
doesn't appear to have terribly wide propogation so far (read: there are
basically no postings to it at the moment). The FAQ is also posted to
alt.music.alternative every month, so you might try looking there for
information once in a while.
For people who are in the 614 area code (or who don't mind coughing up
gobs of money to Ma Bell), there's also a TKK-themed BBS available, run by
the mailing lists very own D'rat; while I can't afford to call it up and
check it out myself, comments by others in the area would be greatly
appreciated.
And then, of course, there is the band... they don't have one central
account, but a few of them have crept online and are around if you know
where to look. They have been talking about setting up a Kult Connection
Web site in recent months, so there might finally be some sort of official
way to contact them on the horizon... keep watching...

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: Where can I contact any of the labels mentioned so far in this FAQ?
A: In addition to being sources of all sorts of TKK-related material, the
labels listed below are excellent places to look for other outstanding
industrial material as well. In no particular order, the people to contact
are:

   Wax Trax! Records
   1659 N. Damen Avenue
   Chicago, IL 60647
   phone: 312 252 1000
   fax: 312 252 1007
   e-mail: comments@waxtrax.com
   WWW: http://www.waxtrax.com
While most of the Wax Trax! releases to find their way to store shelves
since 1995 have been marked with the address waxtrax1@aol.com, the label
has recently registered their own domain, and can now be contacted at the
above address. From the looks of things, there aren't going to be any new
TKK releases from these folks in the near future, though much of their back
catalogue is still available by mail order.

   Interscope Records
   10900 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 1230
   Los Angeles, CA 90024
   phone: 213 208 6547
The Kult's label from mid-1991 until late 1996, these would be the people
to talk to about the band's disco/techno period. Their distribution is wide
enough that pretty much any record store should be able to order whatever
post-_Sexplosion!_ releases you're looking for, so long as they're still in
print.

   Cleopatra Records
   8726 S. Sepulveda, Suite D-82
   Los Angeles, CA 90045
   e-mail: cleopatra@tunanet.com
   WWW: http://www.hallucinet.com:80/cleopatra
PLEASE NOTE: Cleo used to have an online account with the Cyberden, which
has since been absorbed by Hallucinet, hence the new URL for the Web page.
These are the people to contact regarding the availability of any
Electric Hellfire Club material released so far. Like Wax Trax!, they
haven't been too good at returning e-mail messages so far, so mail order
might be the way to go.

   Fifth Colvmn Records
   P.O. Box 787
   Washington, DC 20044
   phone: 202 783 0044
   fax: 202 783 0046
   e-mail: fifthcolvmn@tunanet.com
   WWW: http://www.hallucinet.com/fifthcolvmn
Back from an extended period of online homelessness, the people who brought
you Chemlab and other musical treats during the first half of the decade
are signing new acts with a vengeance, and Death Ride 69 seems to be among
the latest additions to their roster (as well as a couple of Levi's
countless other projects). By all means, check them out.

   Re-Constriction Records
   4901-906 Morena Boulevard
   San Diego, CA 92117-3432
   fax: 619 483 7414
   e-mail: chase (chase@panhand.com)
   WWW: http://www.fiu.edu:80/~wjones01/recon.html
The guy to talk to about several of Linda LeSabre's abovementioned guest
appearances, Chase has also been really good about replying to his e-mail
in the past, and occasionally mails out free stuff to anybody who is
interested in knowing more about the label. It is worth noting, by the
way, that his e-mail address has recently changed (the people from UCSD
probably noticed that he had been scamming an account from them for the
past couple of years).

   Invisible Recordings
   P.O. Box 16008
   Chicago, IL 60616
   e-mail: invisiHQ@aol.com
   WWW: http://www.spontaneous.com/scol/invisible
Home to Pigface and a number of lesser-known acts, Invisible is the label
to contact regarding the availability of several releases which feature
guest appearances by several of your favourite Kult members.

Unless otherwise stated, all of the mailing addresses and phone/fax
numbers listed above are based in the United States, so don't forget to
take that into account when trying to get in touch with those labels. Web
page URLs are also assumed to be case-sensitive.

Q: Who is Doreen?
A: I haven't the foggiest idea. Maybe you should ask the crazy guy in
Honolulu. (Yep, this is supposed to mystify and impress you with my
superhuman knowledge of the band...)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

[CHANGES AHOY!]
Q: I feel the urge to spend money... what should I spend it on?
A: Judging from the final days of mailing list, the general consensus is
that you should run down to the nearest record store, empty your pockets
in front of the cashier, and run home with all of the cruddy rave
compilations that you can find. Personally, I would prefer if you were to
send the bulk of that money to me.
Failing that, there's always the list of positively drool-inspiring TKK
releases that you'll find below, you selfish little snot.

As mentioned in the last FAQ update, the online discography is going to
be a heck of a lot more informative (at least when it comes to outside
projects, remixing work, etc., done by various Kult members) than this
one. At the very least, it's worth a quick look, and can be found at
http://www.uoguelph.ca/~collingr/discography.html at the moment. Once
again, many thanks to Becky, without whom this online FAQ scam wouldn't
be possible.

NOTE: Based on the only information that I have seen to date on this
release, it isn't clear whether or not the track listed is a
remix; the track time would seem to indicate that it's the
album version with a few seconds of blank space to fill out the
CD, but clarification would be appreciated.

...and, of course, the Getalong Gang. Y'all know who y'are. Cheers.

Q: Ed Regis?
A: Okay, so he has nothing whatsoever to do with the band; I cite him in
everything else that I write, though, so why not? Best of all, he replies
to my e-mail, which puts him one up on most of the record labels listed
above.

Q: What else is there to know about this FAQ?
A: Precious little. I've deleted the moronic introduction because it never
really said very much, but the Standard Rules of Use (tm) always apply:

  - reading, downloading, and distributing the FAQ is a-okay with me;
  - editing the FAQ or claiming it as your own work isn't;
  - contacting me at bm254@torfree.net before reprinting any of it
    would be a nice gesture;
  - taking the contents as gospel is just plain stupid... it's called
an *UNOFFICIAL* FAQ for a reason.

That's about it. I'm always looking for more accurate information than
the stuff that is printed above, and updates will be greeted with happy
e-mail and a spot in the credits. And please, if you're going to send me
gobs of information (y'all know who you are), don't do it from an
address that I can't reply to... some great thank-you letters have
bounced because of those types of shenanigans.
As far as the future of the FAQ goes, I'm not entirely sure what is
going on. This is the first release to see the light of day in three
months or so, but I rather enjoyed cobbling it together... I'll likely
turn out future updates whenever the amount of new information warrants
them. The online FAQ will, telnet connection permitting, continue to be
updated as often as possible (starting with a fairly major overhaul of
some long-outdated sections either tonight or tomorrow); be on the
lookout for some of the tangential sections to balloon like... well...
like balloons over the next couple of days.
That's about it, really. Mucho thanks to all of the folks who have
egged me on and needled me for being lazy for the past quarter, and
here's hoping that the new year brings bigger and better exploits from
everybody's favourite alternative to organized religion.
