What follows is raw material which may be used in the writing of the
work-in-progress "Alpha and Omega". Not everything is there and lots of it
won't make any sense, but you may get some ideas as to what it is about. For

THE KEY TO THE UNIVERSE, THE ULTIMATE ANSWER, THE SECRET OF POWER.
You are living in a book, called "Alpha and Omega".
The plot is much too complex to summarize; indeed, some critics question
whether there *is* a plot, in the ordinary sense of the word.
However, the *form* of the book is described easily enough.
There are 24 chapters, each named for a letter in the Greek alphabet.
Each chapter corresponds to a year between 1989 and 2012 inclusive; thus Alpha
"is" 1989, Beta "is" 1990, and so on.
The book comes in two parts: Part I, "Gaia 2000", running from 1989 to 2000,
and Part II, "The Posthuman Condition", running from 2001 to 2012.
Part I begins with Alpha/1989 and the proclamation of the end of nature and
the end of history, and ends with Mu/2000 and the proclamation of the end of
*human* nature and the end of *human* history.
Part II begins with Nu/2001, the year of the Cosmic Child, and ends with
Omega/2012, the year of the Final Chapter.
Between Part I and Part II, "Alpha and Omega" the *Event* occurs.
The Event lasts 24 hours, from the last moment in which any place on Earth is
still within the year 2000, until the first moment in which every place on
Earth is within the year 2001.
Each "character" in the book must at some point decide what the Event is and
what their relationship to it is.

I'm not sure that this qualifies, exactly, as it's not precisely the end
of the world -- rather, of Western civilization, or (if you prefer) of
the present age of the world. Still, there are dates involved.
Some years back, I worked for a microfilming company that did hospital
records, and for several weeks I did a job involving long strips of
paper with squiggles on them (fetal monitor records, if you must know).
Each individual "frame" of each of these had a number stamped on it,
running from 0000 on up sequentially to wherever the strip ended.
At this same time in my life, I was spending the majority of my free
time in magical practice and study. This may have bearing on what
happened...
The microfilming machine I was using required an almost meditative
level of concentration -- the strips had to be guided into the intake
and "steered" to the center of the rollers, all this at moderately
high speeds. After an hour or so, my mind would get into some fairly
strange states.
One shift, sometime after sunset, I was filming one of these things --
I'd been at the machine for several hours straight -- and for some
reasons the numbers that were rolling past caught my eye: 1942, 1943,
1944...and so on. I found myself thinking of them as dates -- and
suddenly found myself having a, well, vision is the wrong word, as it
didn't have any visual component. Can you imagine something that is
to the emotions as a vision is to sight? A feeling, flavor, or quality,
impossible to put into words, that seemed to resonate with the "feel"
I had for the years in question...
The numbers kept rolling by, and the perception did too -- past the
1950s, the '60s, the 70s. Each "year" had its own quality. Hmm, I
thought, this is interesting; what's going to happen when it goes past
1989 (the current year)?
It went past 1989. The perception continued.
Later, on the bus ride home, I took down as much in the way of notes
as I could get into words. The gist of it is basically as follows:
1989-1993: Indian summer. Decline masked by hand-waving, bravado, big
technological feats drawing attention away from increasing
smaller-scale breakdowns. Toward the end of this period,
great promises and hopes.

Given that the SubGeniuses seem to have been corrupted and poisoned
by virtue of their long fight against the Conspiracy (e.g. $tang's 'selling
out', Bob Black's increasing spiritual violence, the martyrdom of St.
Reith, the slow disappearance of many of the church elders, and general
dissatisfaction in the ranks, as well as the predicted Age of the Crowned
and Conquering Bobbie), the time seems right for the appearance of another
mindless, soul-destroying cult. Since the Discordians came along in 1959,
and the Subs in 1979, 1989 would seem to be the next proper time for a
major cult (so that the geometric series will converge just _after_ the
supposed arrival of the X-ists (giving us needed slack time, of course)).
In this light, and for research purposes only, not for sale or
prescription at this time, I would like to ask of Mr. Parry a description
of his doctrine of 'Kibology'--a Kibologist Manifesto, as it were.

What is happening to our world is ingression of novelty toward what
Whitehead called "concrescence", a tightening gyre. Everything is flowing

Arguably the New World Order is the culmination of the historical
process of integration through militarization. There is no world state,
but there is a world-system without serious ideological competition
between different elites. In "Dateline for Dominance", written 1982, the
Book of the SubGenius tells us that 1991 was to bring World War III, and
in 1992 there would be a "Global Congress" lorded over by the Anti"Bob".
Of course, the Gulf War occurred in 1991, and the Earth Summit in 1992,
and so SubGenius prophecy suggests that the Anti"Bob", the human head of
the Conspiracy, is in fact George Bush. ("there is no branch of
conspiracy theory which cannot find a home for this man" - MONDO 2000)
But just as we have arrived at a point where the G-7 countries and the
UN Security Council are attempting to manage world politics and
economics in a unified fashion, millions of people are despairing of
politics and economics and looking for hope and understanding in the
"New Age" or in various religious fundamentalisms. All the New World
Order appears to promise is an unending series of disciplinary military
interventions a la Iraq and L.A. Some people are literally looking for a
higher power to step and save them, whether it is Christ II, the Hidden
Imam or the Space Brothers, while others are looking for a moral and
spiritual renewal by finding a new guru, World-Teacher, Avatar etc.
Cable News Network (CNN) was I believe founded in 1980, but it was the
Gulf War in 1991 which really marked its entry into history. During
World War 2, FDR Churchill and Hitler all used mass media such as radio
to provide a common virtual experience for their respective nations; and
just as the wartime Allies formed the nucleus of the postwar United
Nations, mythic national identities were probably put forward in the
course of WW2 which continued to influence the world in the postwar era.
Bush used CNN to create a virtual experience for the world when he
announced that "the world could wait no longer". The announcement of the
beginning of hostilities was made in an "Address to the Nation", but it
was really an address to the planet, and the multinational nature of
Desert Storm meant that it was important to refer to "world opinion". So
the Gulf War seems to have greatly accelerated the formation of a mythic
global identity; subsequent "global" media events such as the coup in
Moscow and the summit in Rio are further critical points in the
evolution of this global culture, and both were mediated by CNN.

There is a 1991 book out that answers many of the questions of
what is probably going to happen in the 1990's. It's titled
"The Great Reckoning," and is authored by James Dale Davidson and
Lord William Rees-Mogg. Apparently they've written other books
on economics that many feel were well done. I read this one,
and it's both scary and seemingly accurate. I recommend it.

The following is copied from "The End of the World and 'Prophecies' About It"
by Rev. Minagawa in the August 20 edition of _Intercessors for Japan_.
RAPTURE FEVER - The World Ends on October 28!!!
Today, this is happening in Korea. According to 1 Thess. 4:16-17 at the
time of the second coming, the dead in Christ will rise, then the saints
who are living at that time will also be caught up to meet the Lord in the
air. Thus, they shall always be with the Lord.
Right now, in Korea, many people are saying that this will happen
October 28, 1992 precisely at midnight. This has become quite a feverish
movement. According to the _Yomiuri News_ some 250 churches and groups
nationwide are teaching this. People are selling their homes and giving
fortunes to the churches, quitting their jobs, leaving their homes.
Families are suffering upheaval and divorce. Teens are fleeing their homes
and schools and joining groups in churches by the hundreds. Their families
meanwhile are forming groups and strategies in an effort to get them to
come back.
_The Hot Waves of 1992_, a book by Rev. Lee Jang Iim, and a pamphlet "The
1992 Return of the Lord in the Air" (Taberah World Mission) were sent to my
desk.
It seems that the roots of these predictions are the same as those of the
infamous Nostradamus, namely human history ending after 6000 years followed
by the millenial kingdom. They have made some of the following predictions.
** After the Barcelona Olympics and as a prelude to the rapture, these
disasters will occur. Chicago, San Francisco and Japan will suffer
gigantic earthquakes. At this time, the doors to North Korea will be
opened and many missionaries from South Korea will enter. After August,
the doors will suddenly be shut. They will not be able to return home and
will suffer persecution and martyrdom there.
** October 28, 1992 midnight, will be the rapture in the air. Only those
who believe this date will be in fact raptured.
** After this will come the 7 years of great tribulation. The
Anti-Christ will rule the world. All people will get a bar code 666 on
their forehead or arm. Those living without it will not be able to buy and
sell to get the necessities for living. Persecution on a national level
and martyrdom will occur.
In the first 3 1/2 years, World War III will occur. At the end of the
last 3 1/2 years will be the Battle of Armageddon. The Lord will return to
defeat Anti-Christ and his hosts and Satan will be bound in hell for 1000
years.
** The Millenial Kingdom will begin in the year 2000.
Pastors are introducing the teachings and visions of these "prophets" to
their people. They strongly exhort them like this. "The time is so close,
that it is O.K. to abandon normal gospel and only preach and warn about the
Oct. 28 rapture. Your grapevine in heaven has one fruit (grape) because of
your belief in the normal gospel. Preaching this will make it into
clusters. The diamonds in your house in heaven will increase. If you
don't believe this rapture, you will be left behind with the winepress of
persecution and martyrdom awaiting you. All who cannot stand for the Lord
will be cursed with Satan and thrown into hell."
It is this "gospel" of promise, curse, and fear that is feeding the
"Rapture Fever" in Korea.

This September 1993 EOW date seems to me to be based on two things.
1993 -
I agree with those who see it as the old seven-day -> seven-millenia
interpretation with the seventh millenium (~2000AD onwards) as the
eternal sabbath rest. Since the date of the first advent is a few years
out of sync with the Christian Calendar, 7BC could be the date of the
conception/birth of Christ. Two millenia + 7BC = 1993.
September -
I thought this month for the first advent was derived from the
account in Luke of the meeting between Elisabeth and Mary. Elisabeth
was 6 months pregnant when she met Mary and Mary conceived about that
time. The date of Elisabeth's conception was about the time of her
husband's angelic vision which we know was about June/July because it
was during the priestly course of Abijah which can be calculated from
the beginning of the religious year. So, the month of Christ's birth is
month of Abijah + 6 months + 9 months ~= september
Two assumptions are involved:
1/ Elisabeth conceived about the time of Zachariah's vision.
2/ Mary conceived about the time of her visit to Elisabeth.
Whether Mr.Camping is using any of this, I don't know. What's more, I agree that
date fixing is a waste of time.

I'm new to this newsgroup so I am not sure if this subject has been
discussed before.
Sometime back, I recall hearing about a book entitled "5/5/2000." It
proposes significant changes to the Earth's axial tilt on that date
presumably due to a unique alignment of the planets.
I haven't read the book - anyone know much more about this? I think
I might read the book on 5/6/2000, and laugh out loud. :)

According to the SubGenius "Prescriptures", "Bob" "gives life to the
image of the Beast in order to warn you of its coming"; my theory of the
moment is that "Bob" is a fictional character crafted to look like both
Savior and Destroyer. And struggling to understand the nature of "Bob"
may well lead a lot of people to question a lot of things they once took
for granted. But "Bob", being fictional, can't actually save or end the
world himself; but if "Bob" can't, who can?
My answer is, everyone and no-one. There is a stream of esoteric
Christian thought which anticipates a "Second Coming", not in the form
of a new Messiah - we've already had more than enough of those! - but in
the form of a global shift of consciousness (Barbara Marx Hubbard's
"planetary smile") in which universal compassion is realized in every
individual. The creation of a situation in which each individual gets to
act out the nature of their virtuality, at the same time as everyone
else. But for there to be a collective experience of this sort, the
medium that mediates the experience must permit, in some sense, the
equal participation of all. And for that, CNN just won't do; no matter
how global its reach, CNN is still a single channel, and thus in a sense
a single virtuality.
BUT THE INTERNET IS NOT. Usenet News, for example, is a multiple-reality
medium. Email is a bidirectional channel of communication, unlike TV.
CNN could be the medium of choice for a global electronic feudalism, but
the Internet is surely the medium of choice for global electronic
democracy. The "point" of GAIA 2000 is to bring about a historical
"event" which will mark the entry of the Internet into the "real world".
So the Church of the SubGenius may be grabbing the headlines in 1998,
but the Church of V/R will be there in 2000.

I would be curious to know how people here would classify Frank Tipler's
hypothesis, described in "The Omega Point as Eschaton", Zygon vol. 24 (1989),
that at the Omega Point (future timelike infinity), the universe will have
processed an infinite amount of information, and thus will be almost
indistinguishable from the Christian god (infinite information implies
omniscience, resurrection happens via simulation of all possible beings,
etc.). The predictions his theory makes appear to be falsifiable:
1. The universe is closed.
2. It ends in a single point (is this really testable?).
3. [something about the rate of particle density divergence].
4. The universal waveform has no zeros in the spacetime domain.

Jose Arguelles and Terence McKenna, working in isolation from each other,
attempted to project our acceleration forward, to foresee where we are going.
They used "occult" as well as scientific forecasting techniques, and their
work is controversial (to say the least of it), but I find it a curious
"coincidence" that both of these prophets arrived at 2012 AD as the date when
humanity mutates totally into a completely new relationship with space-time.
As Heinlein warned us, "It does not pay a prophet to be too specific." I,
myself, would not stick my neck out far enough to name one year as "*the*
turning point" but I feel great resonance with the visions of Arguelles and
McKenna. As Bucky Fuller so often said, the only alternatives that seem
thinkable at this point are Utopia and Oblivion. Everything is moving too fast
for the world to stabilize at its present stage or to loop back and stabilize
at an earlier stage.

INTERLUDE IN HYPERSPACE
After Iowa City, I spent a day in Chicago before flying on to the UK. I went
to the public library there and found a book for which I had been searching
for years: *The Invisible Landscape* by Dennis and Terence McKenna, the story
of a 1971 Amazon expedition by the McKennas in which they set out to try the
"vision vine", *Banisteriopsis caapi*, variously known as yage or ayahuasca,
"used in shamanic rituals by Indian tribes of the region and by folk healers",
according to one of my net informants. According to Terence McKenna, "The first
half of the book describes the theoretical underpinnings of the experiment
The second half describes the theory of the structure of time that derived
from the bizarre mental states that followed the experiment. I do not claim
that we succeeded, only that our theory of what happened is better than any
theory proposed by critics."
Briefly the theory is that as well as "forward-flowing...causal determinism"
there is an "interference pattern... formed against that" by some enormous
event or "hyperobject" that lies at the end of history. TMcK has helped to
design a computer program (which I have not seen) called "Timewave Zero" which
provides a map of this interference pattern. Somehow combining motifs from
fractal mathematics and the I Ching, it supposedly predicts those moments in
the course of history in which a major "ingression of novelty" occurs - such
moments being occasions when the hyperobject shows its influence. McKenna
predicts that the final manifestation or "concrescence" of the hyperobject
itself will occur near the end of 2012 (also the end, incidentally, of the
present "Great Cycle" of the Mayan calendar). But what *is* "it"? Here is what
I copied from *The Invisible Landscape*, while in the Chicago library:

One is the dissolution of the cosmos in an actual cessation and unraveling
of natural laws, a literal apocalypse. The other possibility takes less for
granted the mythologems associated with the collective transformation and
concrescence and hews more closely to the idea that concrescence, however
miraculous it is, is still the culmination of a human process, a process of
toolmaking, which comes to completion in the perfect artifact: the mondaic
self, exteriorized, condensed, and visible in matter. Presumably, were such
a hyperspatial tool/process discovered, in a very short time it would
entirely restructure life's experience of itself, of time, space, and of
otherness, and then it would be these effects which would follow rather than
precede the concrescence, and which, through their atemporal influence on
the context of visionary experience, would be seen to have given rise to the
`apocalyptic scenario' in the expectation of so many ontologies. The
appearance in normal time of a hyperdimensional body, obedient to a
simultaneously transformed and resurrected human will, and able to plumb the
obligations and opportunities inherent in this unique juncture in energy's
long struggle for self-liberation, may be apocalypse enough.

skeptical but sympathetic account of some of his ideas in a recent issue of
*Esquire* (the one with the cover story on "How George Bush Went Mad in the
White House").

In the very final scene in TP, Coop is looking into the mirror seeing Bob.
Previously in that last episode Laura said to Coop, in the red room,
"see you in 25 (or something, I dont really remember ?) years".
If we suppose this means that Coop is going to live for another 25 years,
posessed by Bob, wouldn't that be presumtions for making another film or
TV series? He'd be able to do quite a lot of evil in that time.
Does anyone out there know Lynch personally?

The proof of mathematics is in the pudding. As long as people find
existing mathematics useful, and keep discovering new uses for it, no
one's going to complain until someone pins two plane crashes in a row
on the inconsistency of ZFC. I'm happy to bet ZFC *will* be found
inconsistent by 2012, but only at odds of 100:1. The experts in that
business (which I am not) for the most part believe ZFC to be
consistent.

2012: Disaster. The feeling I got for this year can still put a chill
down my back: darkness, cold, an image of something like jagged
teeth.
2013-2015: Decline and fall. Spiralling disintegration of the entire
social structure.
2016-on: A dizzying plunge into darkness. Thereafter, tiny flickering
lights here and there.
So there it is. The sense I had at the time is that it focuses principally
on North America. Other than that, I leave it to be interpreted as you
like; "simple harmless craziness" is probably as good an interpretation as
any other.
The experience never happened again, if it matters.
