SuperVGA Extended BIOS modes for several VGA cards - By The Grafx Group
|
SUPER VGA Extended BIOS Modes compiled by Doug Wolfgram
BIOS modes are set by setting AX=mode_number and executing an INT 10h.
The Video 7 is an exception. They have constructed their own INT 10h calls
which pretty much guarantees there will be no conflict. Although they have
deviated from the normal way of calling INT 10h to set a video mode,it is
still INT 10 and therefore, simple to do.
These are modes NOT supported by the IBM PS/2 or IBM VGA cards. These are
GRAPHICS modes only. Various extended text modes are also supported by these
vendors. Please refer to the vendor's documentation for more information.
The boards discussed in this table are those which have been sent to GRAFX
for evaluation and support and therefore, have been tested. There are many
other boards which may fall into these categories. For example, the GENOA
VGA line is based on the TSENG chip and thus should be compatible with the
STB or ORCHID modes. The exception would be STB specific modes like the
960x720x16 mode.

NOTE1: All numbers are in hexadecimal
NOTE2: All boards that support 16 color bit-plane modes may also capable of
2 or 4 colors in that resolution even if the BIOS does not support it.
This is accomplished by setting the 16 color mode, then just writing
to one or two bit-planes.
ü - These PARADISE numbers also apply to the COMPAQ VGA and the DELL VGA.
ø - V7 modes are set by setting AX=6f05h, BL=mode_number, then INT 10h.
÷ - This mode is only available on the PLUS version of the AST VGA card.
Other boards tested by GRAFX:
SIGMA VGA/H - This board is a low-end TSENG-chip board. It only has one
extended mode, 800x600x16. It is set the same as the TSENG
boards. There is an upgrade to allow the 640x480x256 and
800x600x256 modes.
V7 VEGA VGA - This board is a low-end VGA based on the CIRRUS chip set. It
has 3 extended modes, 752x410, 720x540 and 800x600, all in
16 colors. They are set the same as other V7VGA modes above.
GENOA VGA - GRAFX should receive this board soon. ALl reports indicate
that it should be mode compatible with other TSENG based
boards. The reason of interest for this board is that it has
a 512x512x256 interlaced mode which is excellent for video
applications like videotex and film.
