this Time-line of Star Trek History.  Each listing includes the year, then
any sources or deductions that led to the entry in the Timeline for that
year.  Further questions, or comments, may be sent to the author.

the date of an event in order to resolve an error or inconsistency in the
timeline from which that event was drawn.  By making such modifications,
potentially-conflicting timelines may be incorporated, resulting in a more
complete picture of the Star Trek Universe.

This Notes sheet was primarily constructed for Alex's personal usage--it is
included here more at my own suggestion than anything else.  As a result,
certain crucial details listed above could use some further expansion. 
Namely, the method used to derive the 2271-2276 date for TOS.
 
In Gene Roddenberry's book "The Making of Star Trek", he states that McCoy
was 45 years old during the original series' second season.  Since McCoy's
age was stated as 137 in "Encounter At Farpoint", and since it was revealed
in "The Neutral Zone" that ST:TNG's First Season took place in the year
2364, this gives us a date for the original series' second season of 2272. 
Going on the widely-held assumption that the original series comprised the
first three years of Kirk's first five-year mission, this would put the
date for the latter at 2271-2276. 
 
Furthermore, this figure is supported by the fact that STII: The Wrath of
Khan is widely accepted as taking place in 2286 (or, as some contend,
2285).  In the movie, both Kirk and Khan make specific references to their
previous encounter having taken place 15 years previous.  This puts "Space
Seed" as having taken place in 2271, right where the first calculation says
that it should be.
 
Using this dating, it is plain that the other primary method for
determinimg the date of the original series, namely Sarek's age as given in
both "Journey to Babel" and "Sarek", is incorrect.
