A laptop computer has been stolen from the deputy chief constable of
Avon and Somerset Police.

It was taken from Robert Beckley's car near Marylebone station in
London, but he was not in the vehicle at the time.

"It was in the possession of a force driver and was taken during a
distraction-type theft," a police statement said.

Steps have been taken to ensure there was no security breach as a result
of the theft.

"The laptop concerned is a portal, used to access the force's systems
and network," the statement continued.

"In itself, it contains no information of a sensitive nature.

"As soon as the theft was reported, steps were immediately instigated to
maintain the continued security of the force network.

"We are confident that there has been no breach of the force's network
as a result of the theft."

The theft was reported to the Metropolitan Police who are investigating
it.
