      8 c  Water, cold
      1    Ham bones
      2 c  Split peas
      1    Chopped onion, medium
      1    Carrot, chopped
      1 ts Salt
    1/2 ts Pepper
 
  Bring water and ham bone to a boil. Add remaining ingredients and
  simmer.
