      Title: Apple-oatmeal waffles

      1 c  Regular oats
  1 2/3 c  Flour
  2 1/2 ts Baking powder
      1 ts Ground cinnamon
    1/2 ts Salt (optional)
      1 c  Nonfat milk
    1/4 c  Maple syrup
    1/4 c  Orange juice
           >or apple juice
      1 lg Egg
      3 lg Egg whites
    3/4 c  Tart apples -- finely chop
    1/2 c  Raisins
           Butter or margarine
           Maple syrup
 
  1. Spread oats on a baking sheet; toast in 350 oven, stirring
  occasionally, until golden (12-15 minutes). Mix oats, flour, baking
  powder, cinnamon, and if desired, salt in a large bowl. In a medium
  sized bowl, beat milk, syrup, juice, egg and egg whites until
  blended. Stir in apple and raisins. Add egg mixture to flour mixture;
  stir until evenly moistened. 2. Preheat a waffle iron following
  manufacturer's directions. Grease iron; fill three-quarters full of
  batter. Bake until golden and crisp (6-8 minutes). Transfer to a
  plate and keep warm in a 200 degree oven while making remaining
  waffles. Offer with butter and syrup. Makes about twelve 4- inch
  square waffles.
