      Title: Virginia corn pones
 Categories: Breads
      Yield: 18 Servings
 
      3 c  Cornmeal
      1 ts Baking powder
    1/2 ts Baking soda
      1 ts Sugar
      1 ts Salt
      3 tb Shortening, melted
      1 c  Plus 2 T buttermilk
      1 c  Plus 2 T water
 
  Combine dry ingredients.  Add shortening, buttermilk, and water; stir
  just until dry ingredients are moistened. Shape into oblong patties,
  using 1/3 cup batter per patty. Stir mixture frequently to prevent
  cornmeal from settling.  Place on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake
  at 450 degrees for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
