Submit Payphones

Before you submit payphones to us, please make sure you have:

  •  
    		• The phone's number and area code
  •  
    		• The phone's exact location, at about the same level of detail as existing numbers in the list
  •  
    		• If known, the kind of phone

    If the phone is a COCOT, please mention this, as we would like to verify whether the phone answers with a carrier.

    We also accept un-submissions - as cellphones and COCOTs become more common, Telus is removing less profitable phones from certain locations. Also, COCOT operators are turning out not to all be as financially stable as the incumbent telco - we have discovered a number of "derelict" payphones that are still installed but disconnected, and we are sure you could find more. We have recently also had to remove a number of payphones due to building closures and demolitions and even a few destroyed by fire. If you know of a phone in this list that is no longer there, please let us know.

    If this report is a bank of payphones at the same location, please enter their numbers and types here. You can report up to 6 more phones for this location.
    If you know a phone accepts incoming calls, check the Incoming box. If a phone has a Data Jack, check Data Jack. If you are reporting a phone already in the list that has been removed (and should be deleted from the list), check Removed. If a phone is physically present at this location but has been out of order for more than 3 weeks, check Derelict.

    Not sure where to look for payphones?

    Our list is particularly in need of numbers in the following areas:

  • Camosun College (both campuses)
  • Royal Roads University
  • CFB Esquimalt (we know there are at least 3 in Dockyard)
  • Victoria International Airport (especially the departure waiting areas)
  • Sidney, North and Central Saanich, Brentwood Bay
  • Western Communities
  • Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal
  • Hospitals
  • Secondary Schools (dethme0w went to Reynolds and Vic High eons ago and remembers there being payphones at both)
  • Office Buildings
  • Bars & Restaurants
  • Hotels (many hotel payphones are in locations that are easy for guests to find but not so easy for someone off the street with no business inside)
  • The waiting area at the Coho terminal

    If you live or work near any of these places, you may be able to contribute to the Payphone list without going very far!
