The Original Hacking Publications

The YOUTH INTERNATIONAL PARTY LINE, or YIPL, was first published in 1971 as a radical leftist newsletter, in opposition to such examples of oppression in America as the Draft, corporations, public utilities, and most of all the Bell Telephone System. YIPL published twenty issues of subversive technical articles and leftist rhetoric before changing its name to TAP, the Technological American Party (later to become the Technological Assistance Program) in 1973. With Yippie founder Abbie Hoffman out of the picture, TAP became more technical, less radical, and some say somewhat conservative. By the end of the 1970s, TAP bore little philosophical resemblance to YIPL, running ads and libertarian editorials that sometimes flew in the face of contemporary leftism. But never did TAP lose its focus on the Establishment as epitomized by the Bell monopoly and its war on the People. By 1984, TAP had gone through several changes of editorial staff and had clearly lost the enthusiasm of its early years, ending its run abruptly with issue #91. In 1990, TAP resurfaced with a new staff, and ran for several more issues before again disappearing, this time for good. TAP spawned a large array of imitators, among whom only 2600 succeeded in surpassing it.

This item is a CD-ROM which contains the original 91 issues and two of the 1990 issues, plus promotional fliers and supplementary information sheets. All are scanned at 300 dpi in 8 bit grayscale for optimal reprinting. The issues are organized in HTML, so all you need is a machine capable of reading CD-ROMs and surfing the web - Windows, Macintosh, Linux - all can use this CD!

This CD-ROM also has a special BONUS directory with over 100 megabytes of information about the subjects YIPL and TAP covered.

There used to be a guy in New Jersey who sold photocopies of TAP and YIPL issues 1 to 91 for $100 USD! But this CD is only $6.00!
