Note and Comment

This is a special area code assignment not used from the ordinary
telephone network. Rather, this descended from the old Canadian TWX
(teletype) service which once used the 610 area code, but was changed
in the past few years to 600 (610 became an ordinary area code in
Pennsylvania, to split the existing 215 area).

Thanks to Industry Canada, Canadian Numbering Administrator for this
information, current as of October 1994.

In article <telecom15.312.5@eecs.nwu.edu> you write:

>600 is a code now used by CARRIERS in Canada for assignment to Data
>services. The NXX codes are assigned to specific carriers, similar to
>the way 900's NXX codes are, and the way 800 was BEFORE portability.
>Dave Liebold's pages at www.io.org DO contain a 1994 edition of
>600-NXX assignments to carriers, but this is NOT in the TD Archives!

This has been available as http://www.io.org/~djcl/area600.txt for some
time; the data may be a few months out of date by now, but should
otherwise be within the past year.
