Changing the Registration Name in Windows 95

Did your PC come with Windows 95 preinstalled?

Doesn't it tick you off to see that you're registered as "OEMUser" or
some other impersonal nonsense? Or do you regret that when you installed
Windows, you registered under your real name?

Either way, this can be changed. Here's how:

  1. Make sure you have a backup of the Registry. We're serious.

  2. Launch regedit--select Start/Run, type regedit in the text box, and press Enter.

  3. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, select Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion.

  4. Double-click the RegisteredOrganization or RegisteredOwner options,
     and type in your changes.

  5. Exit, and restart Windows.

If you want to change registered-user information for other
software, you can poke around the Software key. But make only
one change at a time, and remember to ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY!!!
