PROBLEM:       A vulnerability in HP Open View Net Node Manager's Event 
               Correlation Service daemon ecsd 
PLATFORM:      HP9000 Series 700/800 running HP-UX releases 10.10, 10.20 and 
               11.00, plus Solaris 2.5 and 2.6 
DAMAGE:        Allows unauthorized access privilege for users 
SOLUTION:      Apply the appropriate patch as described below

The information in the following Security Bulletin should be acted upon
as soon as possible.  Hewlett-Packard Company will not be liable for any
consequences to any customer resulting from customer's failure to fully
implement instructions in this Security Bulletin as soon as possible.

PROBLEM:  ecsd has a user authorization problem.

PLATFORM: HP9000 Series 700/800 running HP-UX releases 10.10, 10.20 and
          11.00,  plus Solaris 2.5 and 2.6.

DAMAGE:   ecsd allows unauthorized access privilege for users.

SOLUTION: ecsd authorization is tuned to prevent unauthorized access.
          Install the appropriate patch for HP-UX releases as
          described below.

                   Solaris 2.5, 2.6           PSOV_02958

A.  Background
    Event Correlation Services (ECS), ecsd allows unauthorized access
    privilege for users.

B.  Recommended solution

    NOTE: These three patches are NOT be available from the ITRC.
          They can only be obtained from:
          http://ovweb.external.hp.com/cpe/patches/

    NOTE: The HPUX patches are large and have dependencies.

      Apply one of these patches:

              HPUX 10.10 and 10.20                PHSS_24497
              HPUX 11.00                          PHSS_24498
              Solaris 2.5, 2.6                    PSOV_02958

C. To subscribe to automatically receive future NEW HP Security

   Use your browser to get to the HP IT Resource Center page
