PROBLEM: HP has identified a potential vulnerability in the wall(1M)
command. This command is used to warn all users, typically,
prior to a shutting down of the system.
PLATFORM: All HP9000 servers/workstations running HP-UX releases 10.20,
11.00, and 11.11.
DAMAGE: If exploited, this vulnerability could allow a local attacker
the ability to cause a denial of service, to increase privileges
or to gain unauthorized access.
SOLUTION: Apply available patches.

VULNERABILITY The risk is MEDIUM. The sender must be superuser to override
ASSESSMENT: any protections the users may have invoked.

IMPACT: Potential privilege increase or Denial of Service (DoS).

The wall(1M) command which is sgid, contains a vulnerability
which potentially could be locally used to increase privilege
or gain unauthorized access.
NOTE: This problem does not impact HP NonStop Servers,
HP OpenVMS, HP Tru64 UNIX/Trucluster Servers.

B. Recommended solution
Retrieve and install the appropriate patch for the systems in
question from <itrc.hp.com>.
PHCO_28717 for 10.20,
PHCO_28718 for 11.00,
---> PHCO_29085 for 11.04,
PHCO_28719 for 11.11.
