If you can't talk back, what the hellz it good for? NOTHING! If I want to listen to someone talking on the phone, I'll use my SCANNER!! -==Atrocity==- (brantlow@lys.vnet.net) penned: : Here is the first box I have ever created. I have found it to be very useful. : --BEGIN FILE-- : ******************************** : T H E W A L K M A N B O X : ******************************** : Created by: : -==Atrocity==- : Well, for all I know, this is the newest box in existence: The Walkman Box! : What is a walkman box you say? Well, it's named for it's optional component, : the Sony Walkman. What does it do you say? Well this little box let's you : listen in on a line with a pair of headphones, and if you are a teenager and : add the optional walkman, you too can look like the average teen listing to : "that influential heavy metal", when in fact you are committing the felony of : wire tapping! Fascinating isn't it? Well on to parts list... : Headphones, may be mono or stereo, see below. : One SPST switch (You choose the type) : One 10k ohm 1/2 watt resister: 271-034 : Two alligator clips: 270-375 : One mono or stereo 1/8" headphone jack: 274-284(Stereo), 274-286(Mono) : Some wire (Find it in a bridging head....) : OK, here's the STEREO schematic: : Ring < "====-----------------------------|-|---|------------|<BR"> : | |-##| Headphone |] : |---##| |] : | Jack |] : Tip < "==|------------|<BR"> : Legend: : ------ : ------ Wire : < "<BR" Alligator Clip> : o---o SPST switch : //// 10k Ohm resister : ## The two TIPS of the headphone jack (make sure these are both connected to : the ring wire to get sound on both speakers) : == The BASE of the headphone jack : Got it? Good. Now for the MONO schematic, it's basically the same... : Ring < "|------------|<BR"> : | | Headphone |] : |---##| |] : | Jack |] : Tip < "==|------------|<BR"> : Legend: : ------ : ------ Wire : < "<BR" Alligator Clip> : o---o SPST switch : //// 10k Ohm resister : ## The TIP of the headphone jack : : == The BASE of the headphone jack : Testing and calibration : ----------------------- : Now, here's how I tested it, I grabbed my portable phone and went outside to : my residential box. Opened her up, and connected. But you can test however you : want. Now, put on the headphones, and you SHOULD NOT hear a dial tone. If you : do, you either: (a) Have a bad resister (b) Have a loose connection to the : resister, or (c) Have to low of a resister. If (c), head back to RS and grab : a higher value. OK, turn on your portable, (or whatever) and you should hear : a dialtone in the headphones. If not, flip the switch. If you hear a dialtone, : you 're in business. If not, you have either a loose connection or bad : headphones. You decide. Now your box is ready for use. : Usage and the optional part : --------------------------- : Well, it's not too hard to figure out how to use, but here is a synopsis. Flip : the switch to the "off" position, clip on, making sure your connections are : straight (Ring and tip), and listen! Not too hard... anyway, I suggest you : tape your headphone connector to your walkman, plug in your headphones, and : you're ready to plug in. I suggest residential boxes because you can close : them partway and you automatically know who you're listening to. Also, if you : are going to do some serious phreaking with this, I suggest you extend the : wire, and put the resister and the switch in a box to protect them from : damage. : Some stuff I've heard and respected... : "Have phun and don't get caught!" : "Don't let phreaking die!" : -==Atrocity==- : **~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~** : ** _________________ "I'm sifting through the ashes ** : ** | | oh what I have become ** : ** |A T R O C I T Y| I gave myself away now i'm nothing"** : ** |_______________| --------------------------- ** : ** ---------| Lead programmer of |----------/ ** : ** | BlueSteel Software Inc. | / ** : ** / |-------------------------| ** : ** /---------/ (like you care) --------- ** : ** Comments to brantlow@vnet.net Flames to /dev/null ** : **~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~** : --END FILE-- -- #===================================================================# | John Lundgren - Elec Tech - Info Tech Svcs | jlundgre@delta1 | | Rancho Santiago Community College District | .deltanet.com or | | 17th St. at Bristol Santa Ana, CA 92706 | lundgren_john@cc | | Standard Disclaimers Apply (Blah-Blah...) | .rancho.cc.ca.us | | "You can flame your brains out -- it won't take long." | #======P=G=P==k=e=y==a=v=a=i=l=a=b=l=e==u=p=o=n==r=e=q=u=e=s=t======#
