Way back in my youth, I used two sewing pins to get into a local COCOT's
line.  If stuck into the cable right, they contact the ring and tip strands,
and you can just clip your beige onto the pins.  That way, unlike stripping
or burning, it won't be so obvious and you could have a resource to use
again in the future.  My pinholes lasted until the COCOT was removed three
or four years later.
