Poor Man's Switchboard

Poorman's Switchboard Plans by Fu5|0n

----------------------------

Step One: "Building the board"
----------------------------

So you wanna build a switchboard (that thing that operators use commonly). Well look no further this guide will take you step by step through the process to build a good one.

estimated cost: ???
Materials Needed
----------------

Pegboard (Size should be relative to how many lines you want to connect to the board. 5
holes wide per line, 3 holes long per line)
Dual threaded end copper screws & nuts that fit on the screws (The screw size should be
slightly larger than your hole in the pegboard so you actually need to screw it in. You
need 2 screws and 4 nuts per line.)
Red & Green enamel based paint
A small artists paintbrush
Scraps of wood to build a base

Skip a space (hole) from the top of the pegboard and one space (hole) from the end of the board and insert a screw in. Get the screw set so it has an equal length on both sides of the board. Now fasten a nut on the screw on both sides of the board. Tighten them so they both fit snuggly against the board. Now skip a space (hole) to the right and repeat the process. There now one terminal is done. To do a terminal to the right skip a space (hole) to the right and repeat the process. To do a terminal below the one you just did skip a space (hole) below it and repeat the process. Do this for as many terminals as you want. Here's an example of a four terminal board.

ooooooooo
oxoxoxoxo o = hole
ooooooooo
oxoxoxoxo x = screw
ooooooooo

Now take your enamel paints and brush and paint the tips of each terminal (on both sides) as follows, Left screw green, Right screw red. It would be like this for our example 4 terminal board.

ooooooooo
ogorogoro g = green (left)
ooooooooo
ogorogoro r = red (right)
ooooooooo

Now be patient and let the paint dry. Now you have the actual board. Take your scrap wood and construct some sort of base for it so it stands upright. Now you have the finished product. You can number each terminal if you want (It's all personal preference)

Step Two: "Operation of your board"
---------------------------------

Connect your dual alligator clip line to the phone box you want to use (Green clip to green, red to red, duh, duh, duh). Now connect the other ends clips to a terminal on the back of your switchboard (Green to green, Red to red, blah, blah, blah). Now connect as many lines as you want to the board repeating this process. To access a line connect your beige box to the corresponding terminal. There now you can be an "operator" (heh).
