The Smurf Box

What does it do?
It generates any tone you like, and can make
any tone from 37 - 32767 Hertz not just 1 - 9999 Hertz.

Does it work under ESS?
Nope. If you don't know if you have ESS in your area,
dial 911 and if someone answers than you have ESS...
Some tones, however, may work or do.. something!

How to make a Smurf Box:

First, get:

1> A working panasonic Easa-Phone (I use Model VA-8070
   for this) (You will have to alter it enough so it
   won't be a normal phone)
2> An old, working IBM PC or XT or compatible which
   uses a speaker and has wires for the speaker
   (You can probably put it back to before you
   altered it so you can use it for other stuff)
3> Some more wire
4> A BASIC program to generate tones (Included)

Ok, so now you got the stuff. Take apart the phone handset and the base
and throw away the handset (the thing you hold in your hand, duh) and
keep the curly wire connected to the base. Then strip the curly wire and
inside are 4 white wires, now comes the tricky part. Get the extra wire and
connect it to the speaker output from the old PC and the wires on the phone.
Since all phones use propetary base-to-handset, you will have to expirment
on which two wires to use from the phone, what you are looking for is the
voice input (what goes into the handset and base and through the phone
line when you talk). Then, turn on the PC and run the BASIC program with
QBASIC/GW-BASIC/BASICA and make tones through the phone lines. Easy and
phun. To listen to the tones, simply put a speaker in the connection from
the computer to the phone, and listen. (It is better to listen in on
another phone, otherwise the speaker may make it too weak.) Ta-da!
Now you have a handy Smurf Box, make tones and shit all ya want!

Note: Althugh you cannot hear tones higher than 5010 Hertz, the phone
line can. Get some real fuckers!
